JKP Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 I am using this website for the first time. I have tried bidding 5 stars in City Centre, then 5 stars in Central Canals then 4/5 stars in City Centre, then 4/5 stars in Central Canals. I have exhausted my tries for the day unless I add areas. I have looked at Schiphol for 5 stars but do not see any. I do see hotels with no stars, just traveler ratings. Before I try again by adding Schiphol for 5 stars, and increasing my price, I want to be sure that I will not be assigned one of those hotels without stars. Obviously, I want to try one more time for 5 stars in either City Centre or Central Canals. I do not want to be at the airport. Am I on the right track?
thereuare Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! To determine which zones are 'safe' to add when re-bidding, see this thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. When bidding 5* in Amsterdam you have TWO such re-bid zones, feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Additionally, if you'd like help with a bidding strategy let us know your maximum bid and date(s) of your stay and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. JKP Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 Thank you for this reply. I am interested in learning how to use this bidding process. As a Newbie, I am on a learning curve. I have tried for three days to secure a hotel in Amsterdam. So far I have had no luck.I am looking for a 5 or 4 star hotel in City Center or Central Canals for Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14. I bid $140.00 per night. Perhaps I am just running too close to the days I will be in the city. Do you have suggestions before I try again today?
Romelle Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 People get last minute bids all the time. You are not "running too close to the days".However, if you take the time to figure out just what your two re-bid zones are, they will let you do a better job at bidding the 5*s. You've got one, when you realize that if you use the airport during 5 star bidding, since it doesn't have any 5* hotels you can't possibly end up winning there. Romelle
thereuare Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 If you've read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and are still confused try this and post your findings:1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'Amsterdam Netherlands' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
