Marlon Banks Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 First time poster here. Thanks in advance for the replies. I have been going through the forums on this website and thought it would be good to join in on the fun! Anyway, I have booked a few hotels in the past on priceline. Most recent being $100/night in London at the Hilton Olympia in Kensington. My next attempt will be in NYC for 9/26-9/28. I've reserved a King bed at the Indigo in Chelsea for $285/night. Total including taxes are $650. I would like to try to find a place in the city at 3.5* or better, and cheaper than the current price I have reserved. I budget would be around $500 total includuing taxes. So I'm guessing this would have to come in right around $200/night. The areas wanted would be but not limited to: TS, Chelsea, all MT zones, etc. Does anyone have suggestions on when I should start my bidding for these dates and what are chances of me beating the price I have reserved for the Hotel Indigo? Thanks again.
thereuare Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you like the Indigo it can be booked for $601 all-in non-refundable... if interested let us know.If you prefer to try bidding please confirm exactly which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.Do note that when bidding 3.5* and under the following conditions/possibilities apply:MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the information above and we'll take it from there. Marlon Banks Posted June 6, 2012 Author Report Posted June 6, 2012 I have never been to the Indigo, but I have read some good reviews about it, so I reserved it as a back up. I would like to find a hotel somewhere in NYC for around $500 (including taxes). This would be my target price but if need be I will pay more ($600-$651 Indigo). The zones preffered are SoHo, MTW, MTW, Chelsea, TS,Empire State Building, Upper West Side. What are your thoughts about Brooklyn?I would have choosen MTE but I wanted to avoid the Pod hotel at all cost.Obviously I would like a 4* with my budget would be happy with 3.5*Thanks again

thereuare Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 What are your thoughts about Brooklyn?I know it's "up and coming" but i prefer 4* hotels in Hoboken-Jersey City if you're looking to stay outside of the city (but i'm a Jersey boy so i may be biased)I would have choosen MTE but I wanted to avoid the Pod hotel at all cost.Is this based upon the shared bathrooms at this property OR do you have some other issue with this property? All hotels awarded thru PRICELINE's Name Your Own Price will have a private bathroom so that wouldn't be an issue if that is the reason you're avoiding this property. As well, i'd be fairly comfortable that this property (even with the private baths) wouldn't be rated 4*... and probably wouldn't be rated 3.5* by PRICELINE, but i can't/won't guarantee either so if you decide to bid MTE it would be a risk that you'd need to accept, although i would guess that The Pod would be an unlikely outcome. Obviously the choice to include/exclude MTE would be yours and you should work within your own comfort level.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
