travelerpellerin Posted June 25, 2012 Author Report Posted June 25, 2012 After some research, I am following up with HOTWIRE because this hotel is ranked on Expedia.com, Hotels.com, and TripAdvisor.com as a 3.5* hotel. I am requesting to be upgraded to an actual 4* hotel or a discount to the price of a 3.5* hotel which is currently $110 per night. I will let you know their response.
thereuare Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 The three main sites that HOTWIRE uses to compare rates are orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia. While this hotel is 3.5* rated on Expedia, it is 4* rated on each of the other services, so i doubt that HOTWIRE will be willing to do much if anything, but let us know how you make out. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. travelerpellerin Posted June 25, 2012 Author Report Posted June 25, 2012 Their initial response to me was : "We start with the average star rating of other leading travel sites (Expedia is a 3.5 star; Travelocity is a 4.0 star rating and Orbitz is a 4.0 star rating) and then use HOTWIRE customer feedback and surveys to adjust accordingly." I responded with screen shots from 4 sites, including their own vacation site with 3.5 star ratings and noted that they should not be using Travelocity and Orbitz to average their scores because they do not use the same rating scales, no half stars, only whole, which would skew their results. The should only be using sites that utilize the same rating system that they do. I haven't seen that brought up before, but that is a pretty big deal when they charge an extra 25% or more for 1/2 star rating difference. I'll let you know how it goes.
travelerpellerin Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 I was granted a refund today.
