bbnemo Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Hi! I'm looking for some advice in using priceline for the first time to book 3 nights in NYC for August 20-23. Anything 3* and above would be acceptable although 3.5* would be preferable. Our budget is less than $150. We're very open to any area/zone that is easily accessible and close to the subway. From what I gathered from the other topics.. it seems the following areas would be ideal: midtown east, times square, empire state, midtown west, central park south, madison square garden. We're aware of the noise around the TS area ..but also read somewhere that some midtown east hotels are far from subway? Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
thereuare Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.Regarding the zones you've mentioned...MTE - all 'known' hotels at the 4* level are generally considered to be well located and close to a subway station. However, at 3.5* and below there are some hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway.. would this be acceptable or should we not include this zone in any bidding?CPS - at the 3.5* level has the Hudson Hotel which is well located but has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.)... would this be an acceptable outcome?Let us know your thoughts on the above zones and we'll then have a look at your dates in more detail. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bbnemo Posted May 31, 2012 Author Report Posted May 31, 2012 Thank you for your reply! We are aware of the small rooms in CPS, and that is not too much of a problem. But being close to a subway stop is indeed important, and so I guess MTE would be a back-up plan if anything. And of course, we will use the PRICELINE links provided to bid :) Thank you!
thereuare Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 One more question...Much of the Downtown zones have good subway access, but it could be a 20-25 minute subway ride to get to midtown, is this acceptable? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. bbnemo Posted June 2, 2012 Author Report Posted June 2, 2012 A 20-25 min. subway ride is not preferable.. although if this is the case for many of the above mentioned zones in my first post - it's alright. And by getting from downtown zones to midtown... do you mean for example TS to MTE or MTW? Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 .. although if this is the case for many of the above mentioned zones in my first post - it's alright. No, it's just from Downtown to Midtown... you mentioned that '...open to any area/zone that is easily accessible and close to the subway', and Downtown is close to the subway but may still be a 20-25 subway ride to midtown where most of your activities may be. So we were clarifying if this is acceptable, which apparently, it is not.So i'm assuming that at the 3.5* level CPS, ESB, MSG, MTW, and TS are all acceptable... later down the road you can consider adding MTE and/or Chelsea if you desire. When bidding 3.5* in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* CPS, ESB, MSG...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW and TS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, ESB, MSG, MTW...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, ESB, MSG, TS...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, ESB, MSG, MTW, TS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. bbnemo Posted June 7, 2012 Author Report Posted June 7, 2012 thanks thereuare!I followed the guide, it was extremely helpful!Unfortunately, I was not able to secure any of the bids! Do you suggest retrying the same tactics, or will we have to increase our budget... Thanks again for all your help!
thereuare Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 You may ultimately need to increase your budget, but i would stick with the above for awhile given that this is typically slow season for NYC... it may just be a bit early. I would suggest booking a fully refundable back-up just to protect yourself from the possibility of rates rising from here... try BiddingHelper.com and/or MAPS and HOTELS.com to try and find an acceptable refundable back-up (some hotels are non-refundable, so be sure to read the cancellation policy for the terms of the given rate)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know if/how we can be of further help along the way.
