So far all my bids have failed for 3.5* - 4* in the white house and capital area for June 25th - June 27th. I've also tried Dupont Circle 4* with no luck.

White house

4* $121

3.5* $110

Capital

4* $115

3.5* $115

Dupont Circle

4* $121

Is there something happening in DC these days that I don't know about?

DC is a very event driven market... government meetings, rallies, protests, conventions, congress in session, some committee meeting, etc, etc all can have a very dramatic effect on rates. While rates for the dates above are not the cheapest we've seen them, there certainly not the most expensive either.

At the moment i think you'll likely need to be in the $130-$145 area to be successful for a 4* hotel... a 3.5* isn't going to be much cheaper (if at all).

Let us know if you're willing to raise your maximum bid and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

I agree with franklin; weekends in DC are usually, but not always, less expensive than mid-week. That's also when the Travelzoo-type deals are happening now. You're right that there's probably something going on those days, as I was able to get a priceline win at the Washington Hilton for $85 just a week earler. You might want to check again in a couple of weeks. Also, if you don't need to be in one of those areas, I suspect you'll get a better price if you try some outlying areas like Crystal City, Alexandria, or Bethesda. Also try Hotwire. Just be relatively confident that your likely winner will be near a Metro station.
