kangeline Posted May 27, 2012 Report Posted May 27, 2012 Hi I'm about to start bidding on priceline for a 4 star hotel. Would like to stick with 4 star and stay under $200/night inclusive of taxes if possible. Area is up for discussion. We stayed at the Sheraton Tribeca on the edge of Soho last year and loved this location for getting to everything and being close to Soho for the days we stayed close to the hotel. So, any 4 star in this area would likely be acceptable from what I can see.So, Soho/Tribeca is preferred. Would next consider Chelsea/Meat Packing District and then close to Union Square if we had too. Generally like these shopping neighbourhoods as opposed to crazy Times Square etc.I figured our pricing was ok until I just read on here that these June dates might be tough/pricey. Is there something going on we should know about? Might be out of the loop.Any suggestions on getting into our ideal area for our price range would be great. Thanks in advance.

kangeline Posted May 28, 2012 Author Report Posted May 28, 2012 Hi I clicked the above. I can use these links - I'm more familiar with PRICELINE having used it for Seattle. Any advice based on my earlier post? Thanks
thereuare Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 Your budget of ~$170/nite bid price is likely going to be tight for a 4* hotel but to give it a try did you first want to bid the Soho zone only up to your budget OR are you looking for the least expensive 4* hotel in any of your acceptable zones? Given rates for these dates i'd think you're best shot at a deal is including as many acceptable zones as possible, but it's to you based upon your budget vs. desired zones. If more than just Soho let us know all acceptable zones on your first round of bidding and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kangeline Posted May 29, 2012 Author Report Posted May 29, 2012 Pretty comfortable with Soho and Chelsea (Chelsea does appear to only have one 3.5 star and Soho has none) so maybe that plays into strategy? Would with hesitation open it up to mid-town West/Times Square to get the 4 star hotel if needed.thanks
thereuare Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 Pretty comfortable with Soho and Chelsea (Chelsea does appear to only have one 3.5 star and Soho has none) so maybe that plays into strategy? You're looking to bid 4* in these zones, correct? So not sure how the 3.5* star rating comes into play?? As well, as per the message at the top of the Priceline Hotel List, you should never assume that the lists are 100% complete. They only contain hotels reported to the board and new hotels are added/removed and upgraded/downgraded frequently... we often won't know of these changes until it is reported to the board. If PRICELINE offers a given star rating in a zone, you should assume that they do indeed have a hotel they work with at that star rating in the zone.Would with hesitation open it up to mid-town West/Times Square to get the 4 star hotel if needed. So do you only want to stick with Soho and Chelsea for your first round of bidding... then if that fails you can decide your next course of action/including other zones at that point in time? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Unfortunately at current prices i think it will take quite a bit more to be successful at a 4* hotel, but we can certainly give it a try and hope to get lucky! :)At the 4* level in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Soho...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Soho and Chelsea...Bid $183, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $188, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. kangeline Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 $235 Hilton New York Fashion District (Formerly Fashion 26) using PRICELINE linkOi. I tried your strategy a few times - even up to $215 for Times Square and no luck. Finally got this bid this morning. Couldn't get Soho. Apparently picked an expensive time to go!! Who knew! Thanks for the advice. This will be very helpful on future trips.
thereuare Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 Congratulations on your success! While perhaps a bit more than you were originally expecting to pay, this does look like a pretty good deal for these expensive dates in the city. Hope you're pleased with the outcome and looking forward to your arrival.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Enjoy your stay.
