Hello. I am a newbie seeking assistance in finding a 3 * hotel in the College Park / Hyattsville area from 5/25 to 5/27. I will need 2 rooms to accommodate 2 adults per room. My budget is $65-85 per nite and would prefer that the hotel be equiped with a pool, however if the price is right I will do without the pool.

Thanks for any assistance u can offer.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you only bid the 3* level in PRICELINE's (Hyattsville-Landover) zone, you're guaranteed a pool as per the 'guaranteed amenities' shown by PRICELINE. Once you include College Park a pool is no longer guaranteed.

Alternately you could use HOTWIRE and choose a hotel in the area which lists a Pool as a provided amenity. The trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE.

Let us know what you'd like to try first (if PRICELINE zone and maximum bid... if HOTWIRE the zone, star rating and amenities associated with the hotel you're interested in) and we'll advise accordingly.

I think i would like to stick with Priceline's Hyattsville/Landover area which includes the pool as part of the guaranteed amenities. I would like to keep my bid within the range of $65.00 (min) and $85.00 (max).

I have been searching online for a few days for a good room rate for an upcoming weekend getaway for my family. I just pulled reviews for hotwire and they were horrible. There were reviews (quite a few) of how once a hotel room is booked, the rooms turns out to be not as presented during booking and in very bad locations in run down hotels. I am very new to online booking and at this point am quite concerned as to whether or not i should give it a try. I am a single parent and will be travelling with children. Any input of others experience and how to avoid a bad experience will be well appreciated. Thanks for your help.

You don't have much time here. There are three free re-bid zones at the 3* level. If you'd like your logic checked, post back your understanding of the free re-bid zones.

I think the majority of people have very good experiences with HOTWIRE. HOTWIRE is more expensive than PRICELINE, but I think in many ways it's more comfortable for new users than PRICELINE, as ratings (both HOTWIRE and in many cases PRICELINE) are shown and people can make (although not in every case) educated guesses as to which hotels are showing. There are negative experiences on occasion here-and-there (more in smaller towns and lower star ratings, but also occasionally in big cities as well), but - not sure where you are reading reviews - I think the majority of people seem to have reasonably or very positive experiences.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Romelle,

Don't understand what you mean by free re-bid zones. Could you please explain?

Priceline Re-Bidding Explained

You can only bid once every 24 hours, unless you change something like zones or dates. Your dates are set, and you are only interested in one zone, so you are pretty much stuck with only one bid every 24 hours.

HOWEVER, if you can find other zones in the same city that only have star levels lower than your selected star level (3* in your case), you can add these zones on one at a time and increase your bid each time. Just as an example, with the three free re-bid zones, you could bid 65, 70, 75 and 80 tonight. And then if you weren't successful, you could bid 70, 75, 80 and 85 tomorrow night when your 24 hour lock-out has expired.

It is vital that you are able to determine the free re-bid zones yourself, since they can change any time and you have to do the process just before each bidding session.

After you've taken a look at the references link, if it doesn't quite seem clear, post back here to get some more help sorting it out. You have to be on the Priceline bidding page to do the check.

On another topic, AaronJB is suggesting you take a look at Hotwire. I'd second that. At least post your dates up in the left hand corner box and take a look at what is available. I travel a lot, and go back and forth between Hotwire and Priceline depending upon where I find the better deal that meets my particular requirements. I've never had a problem with either. When I travel with my grandchildren, I also usually have to make sure there is a pool.

I'm not currently seeing this property offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates... are you still seeing the above on your own search? If so, are you searching HOTWIRE for 2adults/0children OR 1adult/2children?

Good morning. I attempted to bid on the property listed by Hotwire last and was told that it was no longer available. I was able to secure a mariott property through Priceline with a bid of $75.00 per night. The only downfall was there was no pool with this property but I think I will be very happy. Will post back post vacation and let u guys know how the property was. Thanks again for all ur help.

Congratulations on your success!

Sorry to see the HOTWIRE hotel disappeared, but hopefully you're pleased with the results for this Marriott and can make this work for your needs. This is the Marriott at 3501 University Boulevard East, correct?

Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
