ChellyO Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 I need a 3 1/2 to 4 STAR hotel room for one night Oct 31 in Downtown Austin. There is an event in town that night. I am concerned about getting shut out by bidding too late. When would be a good time to begin? Thanks for helping.C.
Romelle Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 There is a good discussion on bidding timing in the F.A.Q.s above. Even now is good time to begin, as long as you stay on the low side initially. For downtown Austin on your date, HOTWIRE has a 4* at $170 and a 3.5* at $133.For event situations, it can be a good idea to make a cancelable back-up reservation and then bid up until the last minute (hoping to score a better deal). There are lots of links to hotel sites on the Support Page (and the link to the Support Page is in the header just above).Romelle
AaronJB Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 Austin's downtown area can be quite expensive if there's something going on. If there's a significant event going on, I'd be persistent in trying to get something locked in and consider looking for a back-up.What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ChellyO Posted May 23, 2012 Author Report Posted May 23, 2012 I have made a backup reservation at the AT&T Hotel and Conf Ctr for $200 plus tax. My budget is about $140.
thereuare Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 I need a 3 1/2 to 4 STAR hotel room...Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* (and therefore want to bid up to your limit for a 4* property before trying for a 3.5* property) OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
