rphsims1 Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 I am trying to secure a room for my sister and her 13yr old in Washington DC close to metro areas. They are traveling in Oct 12 thru 16. I started at 3* in dupont area at $48, rejected; then added Capitol Hill area and increased to $52-rejected, added 2 1/2 * at same price -rejected, added White house area for 2.5 and 3* for $55--rejected. I really would like for them not to walk to far to metro and safe for the 2 of them. Please help--any idea.
TravelGuy Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 My sense is that you're starting point should be about $60 for a 3*. What is your maximum?
thereuare Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 If you let us know your maximum bid at each star level and the zones that you are willing to accept we will outline a strategy for you to follow. rphsims1 Posted July 20, 2005 Author Report Posted July 20, 2005 I was really interested in a room no more that $60/nite. If it is cheaper that is better. They want mainly a place that is safe and comfortable to sleep in. Mother and son are not really interested in luxury but seeing the sites and neither has been out of the state of Texas- so I am trying to make it as easy as possible for them. I would even go down to 2*, if I had any idea what they might be and where located. The 3* and 2.5* in these areas were less that .3mi from metro stops which I thought would be good. If there is another that is really close to metro stop and in safe area, please let me knowthank you
thereuare Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I will defer and give TravelGuy the opportunity to reply as he knows the area very well.If he doesn't reply in a day or two please bump this thread and i'll take a closer look. rphsims1 Posted July 23, 2005 Author Report Posted July 23, 2005 Tried again tonite--started at 60 and went up to 68 for 2,2.5,and 3* in White House area,Capitol Hill , and Dupont area--I really want them to stay somewhere in area--I keep reading about lower bids, but the above were rejected--try again later
TravelGuy Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 I keep reading about lower bids, but the above were rejected Unfortunately, all the recent winning bids in the $50-$60 range in the zones you're interested in appear to be weekend stays only.
rphsims1 Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 Finally!!After several tries and listening to Travelguy who suggested splitting up trip from Wed to Sunday to Wed/thur and then Fri/sat. nite. Got the Fri and Sat nite bidding after several bids at Windham Whitehouse-downtown area for $65.Then started for Wed/Thur in same area starting at $75 adding different areas Capitol hill, Dupont Cir. and then decreasing ratings to 2.5*. Several tries and was up to $94 and no hits. Found on this site mentioning Hotwire bid for same date at $92--Went on hot wire and got Wed/Thur nite for $92 at the Holiday Inn Washington on the Hill. Thanks for all the help and special throw out to Travelguy!!
