Chocotowers Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 Hello! I just want to ask for some help in bidding for a 4* hotel in Union Square West - Nob Hill area. We are visiting SFO on June 2 - 6, 2012 and I am looking for a decent hotel with a great location. I'm hoping to get a room $130 or less per night which I thought was overly impossible not until I came across this forum! I have never tried priceline bidding before and I'm excited because my husband and I love travelling! What should be my starting bid? Do you have any idea what this hotel might be? Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 21, 2012 Report Posted May 21, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is USW the only zone you're willing to accept... USE is just as (if not more so) popular as USW and is typically considered to be centrally located. Although you may be more likely to win a hotel within your budget in the USW zone vs. the USE zone, including all acceptable zones in your bidding will increase the number of bids you can make in one session and help zero in on the best deal possible. However, ultimately it's your trip and you know your plans best to determine if USE will/won't work just as well for your needs.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Chocotowers Posted May 21, 2012 Author Report Posted May 21, 2012 I think we can go with USE too. It's our first time in SFO so we just want a hotel with a great access :) I would really appreciate if you can help me with my bidding!:)
thereuare Posted May 21, 2012 Report Posted May 21, 2012 When bidding 4* in San Francisco you have SEVEN re-bid zones. Chocotowers Posted May 24, 2012 Author Report Posted May 24, 2012 Tried all your bidding suggestions but failed... I'm now looking into the hotwire 4* but the prices went up.Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted May 25, 2012 Report Posted May 25, 2012 Please keep us updated and let us know if you have questions regarding HOTWIRE listings.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Chocotowers Posted May 25, 2012 Author Report Posted May 25, 2012 I was eyeing for the USW 4* hotel listing price around $150. However, the deal is gone now. I think will just book the Handlery Union Square as a backup at $189+tax. It has good location according to reviews. Hope that hotel is ok.Do think there are more chances of winning if I bid in priceline just 2-3 days before my travel dates?
thereuare Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 It's possible that rates come down over the next week, but i'd speculate that your chances are less than 50/50 as it would be a fairly significant rate drop from current prices to be successful at $130 or under. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Ravenwing Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 I just tried 4* USW + USE + Fisherman's Wharf going up to 150$ on 6/17 till 6/20 and had no luck. Just an fyi.

Just an fyi.It would be more helpful to others, and help keep the board better organized, if you started a NEW TOPIC for your San Francisco bidding... you can keep your bidding history there and once a hotel is purchased the topic title of that thread can be used to reflect you win. This will enable others to see a history of what it took for the ultimately win, as well as have one location for you to direct others (such as the OP of this thread) to see your bidding history-to-date.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. Chocotowers Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 I tried bidding again yesterday and finally my bid got accepted... Sir Francis Drake Hotel for $150. I'm not too excited with it because of the mixed reviews but at least I saved $150 + Free internet. Hoping for a positive stay in this hotel! :-)
thereuare Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Although this property has 'only' a 3.5/5.0 TA rating, if you read thru the reviews most of them are actually quite positive (it would seem to me that perhaps older reviews are holding this number back, but recent reviews seem mostly positive). As well, being a Kimpton property, it offers an evening wine reception nightly which is a nice way to end the `day or start a nite out in the city.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Enjoy your stay. Chocotowers Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 Looking forward to our trip! As long as the room is clean esp the bathroom, we'll be fine!:-) Btw, I read in oyster.com that this Kimpton property does not have a free wine hour.
thereuare Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 Didn't know this Kimpton didn't offer their wine reception, i thought it was chain wide... thanks for the info. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
