Elphaba Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Will be in NYC 12/5/12 to 12/9/12. Would like a nice hotel for a decent price in Midtown West.
AaronJB Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, this falls within what are probably the most expensive couple of weeks of the year - the prime period for people doing holiday shopping/festivities. What would be your desired budget per night, and are you only interested in MTW?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Elphaba Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 I know!! I'm looking for something under 300 per night and yes am only interested in MTW. I usually bid on PRICELINE and have always had good luck. This is the first time I'm using better bidding. Not really sure how it works yet. Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Knowing that these are some of the most difficult nites of the year, why pigeon hole yourself to only the MTW zone... is this the only zone that will work for your needs this trip? NYC is so compact, mass transit readily available, and the zones so close together that usually most midtown zones work fine for the average user (but even if not, at the very least, i would this some adjacent zones to MTW should also be acceptable and would improve your chances). However, ultimately it's your stay and you know your needs best, so let us know if you want to stick with MTW only and we'll take it from there. Also, did you want to bid up to your limit for a 4* hotel, then if rejected try for a 3.5*... or is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip? Have you done any bidding for this stay yet? (if so at what bid amounts and star levels?)Lastly, HOTWIRE has what i'm guessing to be the Le Parker Meridien for $315/nite, which is literally 1 block from the border of the MTW zone (keeping inline with my comments above)... would this work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Elphaba Posted May 18, 2012 Author Report Posted May 18, 2012 Thank you for your reply. My son is autistic and loves Broadway so whenever we go to New York we stay in MTW. He doesn't like riding the subway. So that being said, I need to limit the hotel search to that area. I would like a 4 star hotel but will settle for a 3.5. I'm not really sure what to do at better bidding. Can you, or someone, please let me know how to bid. Do I just bid on Hotwire or Priceline? If so, why am I on this site as opposed to going directly to them. Also, Le Parker Meridian sounds good. What about hotels during the summer months? I may change our Holiday vacation to one during the summer. I doubt the prices will be much different though. Thank you for your time.Elphaba
thereuare Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 I'm not really sure what to do at better bidding.I assume you're here to utilize our expertise and get advice, which is why we're asking questions first to make sure we fully understand your needs... once we have asked the right questions we'll then be able to suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow. You will bid/purchase directly from PRICELINE / HOTWIRE, but we ask that you use these previously links in order to access each of their site(s).What about hotels during the summer months? I may change our Holiday vacation to one during the summer. I doubt the prices will be much different though. Now you'll see the value of why you're here, as the above is far from accurate... the summer months will be much cheaper than the dates you've mentioned above. Of course every rule can have an exception and you could choose the one date in the summer when some special event is taking place and hotels are sold-out, but do you have a sense of possible August dates and we can take a look and offer a comparison between the two dates ranges you're considering. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
