Snuffleupagus Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 I originally was using Priceline and was bidding in $5 increment starting at $150 for the 5* category. (I normally go for 4* but from what I've read here and experienced booking a 4* in Rome thru Hotwire, it's just not worth it.) I got to $220 before I decided to hold off and wait until the travel date got closer (I was booking more than a month out and Hotwire was offering $240). I looked at Hotwire this morning and saw the $196 so I tried Priceline at $180 and $190 and didn't get it. Booked thru Hotwire and got the Montebello Splendid - which looks like a great hotel! There is a dark side to the story though, you can book thru the hotel website and pay only ~$5 more per night + ForEx fees. So... what looked like a great deal, is in the end only so-so. Again, Italy is a sketchy place to do Priceline or Hotwire. Cheers.
