thereuare Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 That's an amazing price! Most people aren't happy when they're 'surprised' with Priceline/Hotwire but i'm glad it was a pleasant surprise in your case. Can you please double check 2 things:-indeed it's the Waldorf Towers and not the Waldorf Astoria (fairly certain you got this part right, but just want to double check due to the very low price-this hotel was previously reported in Midtown East (not Upper East Side) so can you confirm the correct zoneThanks! Flanagan Posted July 27, 2003 Author Report Posted July 27, 2003 It definitely WAS the Waldorf Towers (the nicest hotel room I have ever been in without my wife) and you are correct, it was MTE NOT UES. It was odd since I was bidding 4* in MTW and MTE and up it popped. A great experience, perhaps paying me back for the numerous times I've gotten the 5th avenue Hilton and was stuck in one of their cramped Priceline rooms...

scopes Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Out of curiousity, how close to your check in did you bid this?
Flanagan Posted July 28, 2003 Author Report Posted July 28, 2003 Out of curiousity, how close to your check in did you bid this? Only three or four days before I arrived (last minute trip). That should be no guideline however to your bidding strategy. As someone who has used Priceline for 25 or thirty separate trips and Hotwire for a half a dozen, there is no agreed upon rationale on when one should bid. Both of these companies receive their inventory at irregular intervals
bturner13 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Was this the first bid and what were the internet rates for the 4* hotels at the time you bid? I'm really curious to know if you got this hotel for 40% or less than the net rate! Enjoy! Tks! :)
Flanagan Posted July 28, 2003 Author Report Posted July 28, 2003 Was this the first bid and what were the internet rates for the 4* hotels at the time you bid? I'm really curious to know if you got this hotel for 40% or less than the net rate! Enjoy! Tks! :) I started bidding MTW at $90 added a free rebid (UWS - no four star hotels there) at a $100 and then MTE at $105. *I think* the Internet rate for that weekend at the Waldorf Towers was $304, but don't hold me to it.For my next trip (Aug 3-6), I may bid on Priceline (Sheraton Towers is consistently going for $75 these days) or Hotwire has a three star in Soho that MAY be the Mercer for $111.
