BaldyAlec Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Great Site. . . I will be booking through either HW or PL, and I will be using your links. BUT, first,. . . .in order to make sure I don't make a big mistake, I just want to confirm what I think I have learned. We will be going to Las Vegas in Sept., and will be looking for a Strip property, looking for a great deal for 3 roomsUnder every possible circumstance, we must avoid Trump and Westin Casuarino. . . . both because of location. So I just want to confirm what I have found out:With Hotwire, Trump can easily be identified because it is the only 5 star Strip North that has no casino listed. if a 5 star is listed with Casino, it has to be Wynn/Encore or Venetian/Palazzo correct ?:?With Hotwire, in order to make sure I do not get Westin, I have to go 4.5 star or above, correct?? There is no chance that Westin Casuarino could ever be considered in the 4.5 star category??? OR, would I have to make sure I go 5 star only for strip S.?? With Priceline, North Strip is safe because Trump is not in that geographic area....Correct?? ..Trump is in Strip North Vicinity.? .. Therefore if I bid on 5 star Strip North, it will be between the same 4 properties listed above. . the 2 Wynn and the 2 LVS. Correct?? (If CP went to 5 star that would be fine, or Mirage, I just have to make sure Trump will not be gotten with Strip North 5 star)With Priceline, Westin is listed by you folks as 3.5* It cannot be guaranteed that Priceline would not change that to a 4 *, correct?? So going 4.5* or above with Priceline would guarantee I would not bet Westin Casuarino. . correct??Lastly, Are there any other off-strip properties that HW or PL categorize as on the Strip, similar to Trump/Westin? I think everything else is legit, but it would be very very troubling if we ended up with either of those two locations or something that was miscategorized like these are. AND Trump can easily be identified. . . . . BUT, Is there anything that would be in the amenities that would clearly signal that it is NOT the Westin??Thanks for any help. ... .Looking forward to booking cheers
thereuare Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! (and thanks for the compliments on the site :) )With Hotwire, Trump can easily be identified because it is the only 5 star Strip North that has no casino listed. if a 5 star is listed with Casino, it has to be Wynn/Encore or Venetian/Palazzo correct ?:?For the most part...If a HOTWIRE listing shows a Casino you know that it's not the Trump since that property does not have a Casino. However, as the hotel lists only contain hotels reported to the board, there could always be some other 5* hotel in the zone that we don't yet know about... so you can't say with 100% certainty that it will be one of the other hotels you've listed (although based upon my knowledge of Las Vegas i'm not aware of any other 5* hotels in the zone that that would qualify for the 5* rating at this time)With Hotwire, in order to make sure I do not get Westin, I have to go 4.5 star or above, correct?? There is no chance that Westin Casuarino could ever be considered in the 4.5 star category??? OR, would I have to make sure I go 5 star only for strip S.??Correct that based upon the last known report of the Westin being at the 4* level if you keep your HOTWIRE purchase at 4.5* or 5* that you will be able to avoid the Westin. However, this is based upon the last known rating of this property... upgrades can happen at any time and we won't know about it until the first report of the lower/higher star rating is reported to the board. Again, i'd be surprised if the Westin was rated more than 4* (at the current time... who knows what could happen in the future with a renovation/makeover), but that's for PRICELINE/HOTWIRE to determine in their judgement and therefore we can't make any guarantees... but your assessment is reasonable. Correct?? (If CP went to 5 star that would be fine, or Mirage, I just have to make sure Trump will not be gotten with Strip North 5 star)Correct, but just as hotels can be upgraded/downgraded, zone boundaries can change too... so you need to look at the zones before bidding to make sure nothing has changed (and observe that the Trump is still in the boundaries of the Strip North Vicinity zone)With Priceline, Westin is listed by you folks as 3.5* It cannot be guaranteed that Priceline would not change that to a 4 *, correct?? So going 4.5* or above with Priceline would guarantee I would not bet Westin Casuarino. . correct??Correct, but as per comments above regarding star ratings determined by the service provider.Lastly, Are there any other off-strip properties that HW or PL categorize as on the Strip, similar to Trump/Westin? I think everything else is legit, but it would be very very troubling if we ended up with either of those two locations or something that was miscategorized like these are.None that i'm aware of at the 4* or higher level, but as per above, things can change (and i keep re-iterating this as 1) because it's true, 2) not sure if you intend to bid now or in a few months and, 3) this thread may be looked at months/years from now, so we like to put all the possible 'warnings' in them since things can/do change over time)If you're looking to use HOTWIRE best suggestion is to post the details to the board and somebody will give a 'second opinion' as to what it may likely be, and if you mention that you're specifically looking to avoid the Westin (or any other property) we may be able to use other information to at least exclude a possible outcome from the possibilities. If you decide to go the PRICELINE route let us know the zones you're willing to accept and maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow (and if you do go the PRICELINE route a warning ahead of time that 'Summerlin' is NOT a re-bid zone at the 4* level)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. BaldyAlec Posted May 14, 2012 Author Report Posted May 14, 2012 This is for Sept 21 - 25 inclusive $80. We would like some clue what this might be, and also some idea how confident you might be that it is NOT the Westin (if at all !!)Thanks in advance4-star Hotel in Las Vegas Strip - SouthThis Hotel features the following amenities:Resort Free Parking Free Internet Casino Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Golf Nearby Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
thereuare Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. The HOTWIRE offer above shows a 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating, while the current TA rating of the Westin is 3.5/5.0, so this would not be that property. The TA rating shown by HOTWIRE is not updated in real time (only updated about once per month) so the ratings will not always match, but the above is far enough away that i'd feel confident that this is not the Westin. My best guess for the property above is a new amenity set for the Tropicana. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
BaldyAlec Posted June 22, 2012 Author Report Posted June 22, 2012 I think I am supposed to close this thread with final results. if so, As of now , we ended up booking Flamingo using code I found for $70 a night. this was much better than what I could see on HW or PL. That will remain in our backpocket, and when we get close to the date, we will see what the options are here and hopefully win a better deal with the help of betterbidding.com (Flamingo is cancellable up to 3 days b/4)Cheers.
AaronJB Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Thank you for closing the thread. Enjoy your stay.
