BigJuicyGirth Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 Was looking for a place really close to Manhattan and on the subway, but without Manhattan prices. From reading these forums and checking the lists knew that 3*'s in Long Island City on Priceline would likely get the Holiday Inn, so tried for that. Started at $90, and went up by $5 each bid (adding downtown Manhattan 'zones' with each bid). $115 per night was rejected, $120 per night was accepted. Total all-in (including taxes & fees) is $587.16 for 4 nights. Advertised rate for Holiday Inn is $188 per night + taxes for that time period. Saved $291 total.
BigJuicyGirth Posted May 12, 2012 Author Report Posted May 12, 2012 I should also point-out that prior to this bid win we tried getting something in Manhattan itself for $135 per night or less for a 2.5 * or higher, and bid trying for that for a few days, and weren't successful. Our Long Island City 'win' is only a short subway from downtown, so hopefully it's a nice money-saving compromise. We're happy we'll be able to stay in NYC within our budget (and not staying in a sketchy hotel/location).
