Priceline Hotel: Need Help Getting Hotel In Times Square

Hey everyone,

I have successfully used priceline to bid on hotels in the past for Chicago and Orlando, but I am having some trouble getting one this time. I have been bidding for months! The dates of my vacation are this month, 5/21 - 5/25. I really want to get a 4* hotel in Times Square, but I would also be okay with Midtown West and if I have to Midtown Central. I have thought about going down to a 3 1/2* but I really want a 4* because this is a very special occasion (I'm proposing to my girlfriend)... My most recent bid was yesterday. After many bids, I increased my bid to $270 for 4* hotels in the following locations: times square, mte, mtw, and central park south. No luck. During this time of year, is there a certain time frame in which they only accept bids? Like maybe within a week of my dates? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear that bidding has not been successful - unfortunately, this is a particularly busy period in NYC. What would be your desired max budget per night?

Well, I was stretching it with the $270/night. The max I'd be willing to go would probably be around $290, and that is stretching it real thin. I've also been checking hotwire daily. I actually had made up my mind that I was going to get a 4* on hotwire for $267 this past Monday. I had selected it and was in the process of booking it. When I submitted my payment, a message came up saying that the hotel was no longer available... I missed it by that much!!

I've just continued to bid frantically on Priceline, hoping I'm going to luck up.

At this point I'm open to almost all advise...almost meaning I really want a 4* but I could to to other zones if need be.

Do you even think it is possible to keep bidding at $270 a day and eventually get a 4* around the time square, mtw, mte area?

What about ESB?

HOTWIRE currently has a 4* hotel in this zone for $245/nite with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Free Internet which i suspect is the St Giles the Court. (this property has not yet been reported to the board since its conversion from the W New York The Court about 2 or so years ago... so while PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, i wouldn't necessarily try bidding for this since i think your chances of landing it thru PRICELINE are low... and since HOTWIRE indicates only one room available)

This zone is usually considered to be well located and i wouldn't have any problems stay here (in this zone or hotel).

If you want another option what about the UWS zone? I think you could likely get the 4* Empire Hotel for about the same price as the ESB property above.
