cmlod1114 Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 I am new to Priceline and I need some help bidding on a 4*/3*Plus hotel from 6/3/2012 - 6/5/2012. I would like to spend ~$125/night and I would be willing to stay in any part of the city for the right price. I tried the strategy below without any luck...Selected 4* Soho...Bid $125, rejected added re-bid zone... (Chelsea)Bid $130, rejected added re-bid zone... (Empire State)Bid $135, rejected added re-bid zone... (MTE)Bid $140, rejected added re-bid zone...(Time Square)Bid $145, rejected added re-bid zone...(MTW)Bid $150, rejected added re-bid zone...(CPS)Bid $155, rejected added re-bid zone...(Downtown)Bid $160, rejected added re-bid zone (HK)Any help would be much appreciated!
thereuare Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. The strategy above is not goo as you risk overbidding for the zones that you have added later in the cycle. To confirm, any of the nine zones are acceptable? What is your true maximum bid? (you mention $125 but apparently have gone as high as $160)At current rates my guess is that a 4* will likely run ~$180-$200 for these dates... not much cheaper (may $10-$15/nite) for a 3.5*/3* (we would of course start lower and work your way up)Do you want to bid a bit higher, lower your star rating, or what is your next move?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. cmlod1114 Posted May 9, 2012 Author Report Posted May 9, 2012 My true maximum bid is $150 for and ideally I would like to be in the Soho/Chelsea area as I am attending an event at NYU. Rather than increasing my bid, I would like to lower my star rating to 3*Plus. What is my next best move?
thereuare Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 Of the zones you have already bid:Soho, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, TS, MTW, CPS, DT, HKMTE - some of the hotels can be up to a 15 minute minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which is well located but extremely small rooms, is this acceptable?MSG - becomes a bidding option. Most hotels here are 'good' but there are some reports of the Affiniate Manhattan giving sub-par rooms to PRICELINE / HOTWIRE / 3rd party guests... is this acceptable if you decide to include this zoneAre all the previous zones still acceptable? Do you want to include MSG in the bidding mix?I do think you're budget will likely need to come up a bit, even at the 3.5* level, so i would try to include as many zones that are acceptable in your bidding, but you should still be aware of the 'issues' above in case anything would be a 'deal killer' and you don't want to bid that zone. Also, given your budget i don't think you really have the ability to pick and choose too much, did you want to first bid the only the Soho zone up to your $150 limit OR is price ultimately the deciding factor and the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay is your goal?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. cmlod1114 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Report Posted May 10, 2012 Hi, As far as your questions: - MTE: I am fine with a long walk to the subway if necessary - CPS: I am fine with the Hudson Hotel - MSG: I am good with including MSG All the previous zones are acceptable and I am okay coming up from my price point. If i am going to pay +$150 I would ideally like to get a 4* hotel, but honestly I am just looking for the cheapest 3*plus/4* hotel I can find in the area. Thank you for your help!
