duolajuzi Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Hello. I am a first-time user of Priceline, and I am getting very stressed out with booking a room for my parents and me within a short period of time(I know priceline only offers double occupancy room, but I am willing to sleep on the floor or negotiate a third bed.)My budget is $130, and I would like to book hotels in safe and relatively accessible area of Boston. I am not very familiar with Boston. After reading some posts on this website, I have narrowed the search to the following areas: Beacon hillboston COmmon-Theater districtboston harbor front-aquariumcambridge east-charlestowncopley square-backbayquincy market-financial district.Do they look like reasonable areas? I would also really appreciate some advice on how to use priceline. Thank you in advance!
thereuare Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Something is happening in this area during these dates (likely a college graduation??) and a LOT of hotels are sold-out, and those that are not, have very high rates, that i doubt $130 will be enough for something in the zones you've mentioned above.Using the HOTELS.com tab at BiddingHelper.com, or MAPS and HOTELS.com, what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable property in one of the zones above? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 When you are in Priceline and looking at the map of the Boston zones, directly under the map are some more adjacent areas upon which one can bid. The first two include the word "Metro" in their name, so presumably have reasonable access to the Metro into Boston. Just click on the names to link to their maps. They really are close to the city.If you aren't successful with the immediate Boston area, maybe you could consider these areas. If you want to see other winning bids in these areas, try the white box Search up above. Enter "boston metro" and make sure the adjacent pulldown menu says "Forums" rather than "This Forum". There also are a few reviews in the Hotel Review area way at the end of this site.Personally, if public transport would get me where I needed in Boston, I don't think I'd drive anyway.Romelle
duolajuzi Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 Thank you so much for your responses. I did a little research and decided not to stay in Boston during this time period just because of the graduation season in Boston. However, I am looking to stay in Boston from 6/5 to 6/10. Would it be possible to bid something below $120 per night for a 3*-3.5* hotel? The areas I am interested in are still:Beacon hillboston Common-Theater districtboston harbor front-aquariumcambridge east-charlestowncopley square-backbayquincy market-financial district.I would appreciate your advice. Thank you!
Romelle Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 I'd guess the budget would still be iffy. The lowest 3* on Hotwire for your new dates is $162. One can often do better on PRICELINE than HOTWIRE, but that much difference is probably a stretch. Looking at just the first two nights, there is a 3* for $117. Then as one adds the other dates (including the much higher weekend nights), the average goes up. RomellePS - I'm a member, not a moderator. But I've been looking at a Boston trip for a while.
