ldib Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 First time using priceline and the result was good for me!Started at US$ 80-85-90-95-100-105, and finally got it.It wasn't my first area/hotel choice because of the 15 minutes walk distance to reach the tubebut at this period i think it's very good price for London.Thank u for the tips!

vanpoodle Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Interesting... I was bidding 4* for that zone for that same week (though I'd split it into 3 stays), the highest I went was to $89. I will keep that in mind though. From this board I've learned that the hotel itself is nice, it's just not close to a tube though it has a bus stop out front. If I don't have success in the other central zones I will revisit this zone for the first week of October and see if I can match what you got! (went up to $100 in the other zones with nothing accepted).
ldib Posted May 9, 2012 Author Report Posted May 9, 2012 I was wrong about the tube. There is the Kensington station near this hotel. It's just 4 minutes walking according to google maps.
vanpoodle Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 From what I understand that tube station is on a spur line that only has occasional service. It does have an Overground station which hooks up mostly with the Northern suburbs, though the Overground has a station at Shepherd's Bush where you could catch the Central Line, but might end up with the same amount of walking to do that interchange as to walk to the Tube at Earl's Court or High Street Kensington from the hotel. I found this article announcing a reduction of the already spartan service to that station (it used to operate something like once or twice an hour):Transport for London (TfL) plans to cut weekday underground services from Earls Court to Kensington (Olympia) as part of a shake-up of District Line services. The transport authority will discontinue weekday services Earls Court and Kensington (Olympia) in December but will continue to operate underground trains between the two stations on weekends. London Underground will also operate a special service to serve major weekday events at London Olympia. As part of the changes, Overground train services to Kensington (Olympia) will increase from three to four per hour from May, and additional five trains on the Wimbledon branch during the morning weekday peak.London Underground has recommended weekday passengers to London Olympia use the nearby Barons Court or West Kensington stations, which are within half a mile of the venue. The changes to the district line come into effect as part of a new December 2011 timetable.
