Chimmy Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 Hi! I've used this board many times, but it's been awhile and could not figure out my old username.I'm looking for 5* Rome 5/24-5/27. I attempted to follow the instructions posted here:Priceline RomeCentral Rome is the only 5* zone, and so I figured it would be easy to follow the details. Last night, I started at $190 and used the PRICELINE link through Better Bidding. I was only able to complete the second re-bid round. Therefore, my final bid was $250. It was not accepted. I received the message that I could not attempt again. I reaccessed by clicking the PRICELINE link listed in the above.I will try again tonight starting at $255 (the poster in the above link was rejected at $255). Any thoughts why I was only able to attempt the two "rounds"? What might be a reasonable bid? I'm willing to go up to $310...realistic?Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Exactly what bids did you make the previous time you had bid and what bid were you trying to make when your offer was deemed a duplicate bid? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Chimmy Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 I'm trying to recreate from email but only have first time. I know not very helpful and moot since going to try for 4*. I think I added an extra zone during re-bid.Central $175Add Rome Airport $185Add Vatican City $195Add North $205Add South $215Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 I think this is probably the issue...There is a difference between the bidding you did and the first phase of the referenced priceline bidding strategy. In the strategy linked above, only THREE re-bid zones are used in the first cycle, whereas you used FOUR.When bidding 5* In Rome you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 5* Rome...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $180, if rjeected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 5* Rome and re-bid zone4...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $210, if rjeected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 5* Rome and re-bid zone5...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $230, if rjeected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 5* Rome and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $240, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $250In the first cycle you only want to use THREE out of FIVE re-bid zones. If rejected after adding your THREE re-bid zones, close the browser, use a PRICELINE link on the board to re-access PRICELINE, and bid your desired zone PLUS the FOURTH re-bid zone (either of two remaining re-bid zones not yet used). Then continue to add, one at a time, the THREE re-bid zones used previously.Basically you want to number your re-bid zones 1-5, then follow the strategy above, substituting re-bid zone1, re-bid zone2, re-bid zone3, re-bid zone4, and re-bid zone5 where indicated.Let us know if the above puts you on the right track or if you have any further questions. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck! Chimmy Posted May 10, 2012 Author Report Posted May 10, 2012 5* Rome (Central) De La Ville Intercontinental Roma$310I really wanted to keep trying for a 5* and finally won. It's pricey but I think a discounted price. I used the PRICELINE links to do my bidding. The reviews are quite mixed. I'm starting to have bidder's remorse. :)
thereuare Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Sorry to see it cost so much, but glad you ultimately received the 5* hotel you were trying for. I glanced at the reviews and while there are some which are less than stellar, for the most part they seem fairly positive. My guess is that this is a very pricey hotel (even your win is $100 less per nite than prevailing rates) and when paying nearly $500/nite guests usually have very high expectations, which are not met (whether the expectations are unrealistic OR if the hotel falls short i can't say), but hopefully you'll be impressed by the property and have considered it a good value relative to the 5* experience you were seeking.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Chimmy Posted May 29, 2012 Author Report Posted May 29, 2012 Thanks for the assistance! We enjoyed our stay very much even though we were rarely in our room. We were traveling with 2 adults and a 2 year old. I intended to send an email requesting a cot or toddler bed, but our internet service was sketchy (non-existent) for the 2 weeks prior to our stay. When we arrived, I figured it would be easy enough to request the cot. A 2 person room is apparently very small, and we were told could not fit a cot. They found a larger room that could fit the bed. We were not charged extra...I don't know if we should have been had we booked a larger room.Anyway, we were happy with our stay. We spent a night at the Westin at the start of our trip (used points). Preferred our room at Intercontinental.
AaronJB Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 Glad to hear you had a great stay at this property! Thank you for the follow-up review.
dufman Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 Hello - I am also trying to book a 5* in Rome (Central). From the previous posts I see that some people got the De La Ville Intercontinental Roma when they were looking for a 5* in Vatican. On priceline De La Ville Intercontinental Roma shows up under Central. Any ideas if the classification has changed recently? The reviews for De La Ville Intercontinental Roma on tripadvisor don't look too promising :/
thereuare Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 I'm not sure if the zone boundaries for this area have changed OR if there was an erroneous report/classification on the board. You are correct that this property is located in PRICELINE 'Central' zone, so if you're looking to avoid this hotel, you'll need to avoid this zone when bidding on PRICELINE (or use HOTWIRE if you feel you can identify the property offered, or at the very least, be reasonably sure that the hotel offered is not the hotel you're trying to avoid)If you'd like help with, or to report a win for, your upcoming stay please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks.
