maddb218 Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 Hi there, I'm new to the forum and have never used Hotwire before. I have mixed experiences with PL. However we have a party of 4 and I kept hearing that Hotwire is a better choice. Can anyone please clarify this information for me?If I'm going the Hotwire route, I would like to land a 4* room, preferably somewhere near midtown, but I can stay anywhere else as long as it's in Manhattan. My budget right now is 250, but I guess I can stretch it to 300 if I must. Does it sound feasible for the date of my travel?
AaronJB Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The issue with PRICELINE is that it only guarantees one bed/double occupancy. One can request two beds with the hotel, but the hotel could say no or charge more. Some areas (Orlando) are fairly easy when it comes to requesting two beds. However, in NYC, rooms (even at the 3.5/4* levels) can be small enough that a rollaway would not fit. Many hotels have far more in the way of single bed rooms and if they do have double bed rooms, they often go at a premium.HOTWIRE is a better choice as one can indicate the amount of people in the party and ensure bedding for the party indicated. That is commonly two beds, but could be 1 + sofabed or other combo. Are you a party of 2adults/2children, or 4 adults?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
maddb218 Posted May 7, 2012 Author Report Posted May 7, 2012 Thank you for your prompt response. I certainly have been using your link to bid/book on PRICELINE and HOTWIRE.I decided to search for 2a/2c even though the other 2 are pushing 18-19. I'm hoping not to run into any trouble with the reception desk *fingers-crossed*. One more question, is there any difference between 3*1/2 and 4*? since I havent seen any 4* in my price range
thereuare Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 One more question, is there any difference between 3*1/2 and 4*? since I havent seen any 4* in my price rangeThere is some reason/criteria for one property being rated 4* and another 3.5*, but it's subjective and there may be some 3.5* hotels that you actually prefer more than some of the 4* hotels... and some 4* hotels which you may find truly superior to the 3.5* hotels. When searching HOTWIRE for your dates, what 3.5* properties do appear within your budget and desired zone(s)? What is the price and full list of amenities associated with the offer? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.
