thereuare
What is the minimum star rating you're seeking for this trip? Is the goal the least expensive hotel at this star level OR are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jfiler
Well I was hoping 4 star but as long as i can get for $160 or less. My goal is to get the best thing I can for $160 or under. If I couldn't get that then maybe Ill settle for 3.5 starI checked Travelocity and found these two 4 star hotels through normal booking:Ace hotel $194Eurostars $210And priceline is showing 2 hotels that are under $240 p/night., both 4 starSo since there are 4 star hotels with normal rate in that range, then I think priceline bidding should accept for $150 since thats less than 40% off the normal price, and they claim to give 60% off with bidding. What do you think? Romelle
The exact phrase on PRICELINE is "up to 60% off". Very critical two little words in there. I've even seen better discounts, although it is really rare. In high seasons it tends to be less. Sometimes much less. I've seen people happy with 10% off when that was the very best they could do. jfiler
If I make a bid lets say at 12 pm, and then at 2 pm rebid by adding a free rebid zone (without a 4 star hotel). Then when does the 24 hour end for me to be able to rebid on my original areas excluding the free rebid zone? is at 12pm next day or 2pm? AaronJB
If you are rejected for a specific bid (4* MTE, for example), you cannot make that specific bid again for 24 hours after the time the bid was rejected.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. jfiler
ok i started bidding on 3.5 starsomething very weird happenedI selected madison square garden area and it said median price for this area is $227so i got rejectedthen i used a free rebid zone, long island city since its highest star is 3but as soon as I added long island the median went down to $171why did that happen??? if there is no 3.5 star in long island why did the median for 3.5 star go down?Im afraid it might get me a hotel in long island? Link to comment
Romelle
As long as you checked Long Island City for star availability higher than 3 JUST BEFORE you bid, and verified there was nothing, you can't get a Long Island hotel when bidding 3.5*s.The way PRICELINE calculates that "median" number is sort of a mystery. There may be some logic to it, but one is better simply ignoring it. RomellePS- I did just check, and Long Island City doesn't have anything higher than 3*s right now. You were wise to ask the question though. In other areas, bidders have missed a "Resort" offering at the bottom of the star list. Resorts fall between 4* and 5* and act like 4.5*s. Phoenix, Las Vegas and other places. Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 3.5* in NYC do note:MTE - some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subwayCPS - has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small roomsMSG - becomes eligible for bidding (but also contains the Affinia Manhattan, which generally gets good reviews, but there have been some reports of PRICELINE / HOTWIRE / 3rd party booking guests getting the least favorable rooms in the property, which are sub-par to the 'standard' rooms)If you'd like help with a bidding strategy please confirm the zones you're willing to accept and your maximum bid and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
