Priceline Hotel: Need 4+* in NYC 2 beds

This will be my first time using Hotwire or Priceline and I would like to save some money if possible. My elderly mother and I require 2 beds. We're only seeing one show and don't need times square. Any advice between the two sites?

Thanks

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy; this is especially true in NYC, where rooms are smaller-than-average in many instances, with some rooms at the 3.5-4* level as small as 130-160 sq ft. One can request two beds with the hotel, but the hotel can say no and may be unwilling or unable.

HOTWIRE would be a better option, although when searching for 2 people you still would likely get two beds. One suggestion would indicate three people by indicating 2 adults and 1 child, even if there isn't a child, to ensure more bedding than 1 bed (there is no way to guarantee exact bed type, but indicating more than 2 people on HOTWIRE should ensure more than 1 bed.)

What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?

...I require 2 beds.

Is this a want or a need?

Assuming it's a need, searching HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children (this helps ensure separate accommodations for you and your mom, although as per above, the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway, etc) there is a 4.5* hotel in the Times Square zone with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business for $367/nite. This matches previous reports for the InterContinetnal Times Square and that would be my best guess for this one.

There are a few hotels at the 4* level for $15/nite or so for less, but they're not as well reviewed as the 4.5* in Times Square (which also has a TA rating of 4.5/5.0 which is excellent), or you could get a lower price if the 2 bed issue is a want and not necessarily a requirement for this trip.

One other ideas:

Doubletree Chelsea $314 (2 double beds)

Do either of the above work for your needs OR do you want to try for something cheaper but without being able to ensure separate beds.

Hello:

Should I try my luck at ringing the hotel after the bid to let them know my preferences or stick with a sure thing? I would like to have more than two options knowing that with tax, the Times Square room will exceed my budget.

Best,

In terms of two beds, PRICELINE would be a significant risk and it's quite likely that you would not be able to get two beds if you called the hotel, or the hotel may want to charge more. In terms of getting more than one bed, the best option in NYC becomes either booking directly or HOTWIRE and indicating more than 2 people (as for HOTWIRE, that ensures some form of bedding - 2 beds or 1 + sofa.)
