Alybaba Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 I'm new to this site and hoping for some help/advice. I will be visiting NYC (2 adults, 2 toddlers). Any advice on bidding for a hotel on Priceline that is close or convenient to NYC?
Alybaba Posted May 5, 2012 Author Report Posted May 5, 2012 I am visiting NYC 9/10/12-9/15/12, and looking for a cheaper alternative to Manhattan? Any suggestions for a hotel $120 or below, that's convenient via public transportation? 2 adults and 2 toddlers. Thanks!

Alybaba Posted May 5, 2012 Author Report Posted May 5, 2012 Sorry, I missed that! My toddlers are 2 and 4. Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)As hotels, and rates, will likely differ if searching for 2adults/0children vs. 2adults/2chidlren let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll see what options are available. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Alybaba Posted May 5, 2012 Author Report Posted May 5, 2012 Is anyone familiar with the Meadowlands - Secaucous area of New Jersey? Are the 3star and up hotels all conveniently located near public transportation? Any advice is appreciated!Thereuare, thanks for the tips! I am okay with one or two beds.
thereuare Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Meadowlands - SecaucousAre you referring to PRICELINE or HOTWIRE?On PRICELINE these are two different zones:Meadowlands - RutherfordSecaucus - North BergenOn HOTWIRE the zone is as per above:Secaucus - MeadowlandsIf HOTWIRE (since the name is a match for what you typed) all 3* hotels are not 'safe'... the Sheraton comes up a LOT in this zone and is fairly isolated as it's surrounded by highway (and not serviced by the bus). The hotel does offer shuttle service to nearby Secaucus Junction where there are trains into Manhattan, but their shuttle service doesn't run that frequently, iirc. There is a lot of time before your stay, so you could wait for inventory to change, or your best bets at the moment:1) bid for a 4* hotel on PRICELINE in Hoboken-Jersey City up to your limit, as this star rating and zone combination is the best for a NYC alternative2) HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Sheraton Suites Lincoln Harbor for $155/nite. The bus stop is literally at the door of the hotel and it's less than a half a mile into the mouth of the Lincoln Tunnel. (but just how long it really takes is dependent upon how bad traffic is, which is always a crapshoot)If the above are your two best options, i would bid the 4* level in Hoboken up to $160 (even a little higher than the HOTWIRE option) as the 4* PRICELINE hotels in this zone are better located than the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor (sine the PRICELINE options offer travel to the city via PATH train as opposed to the bus)If the above is rejected you can then choose the HOTWIRE option, or:1) wait and hope for different HOTWIRE inventory at the 3* level in Secaucus-Meadowlands (i checked, i believe the Sheraton Meadowlands is appear there)2)continue to try PRICELINE at the 4* level (although ~$160 might be low for this time of year)Your thoughts/questions?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Alybaba Posted May 7, 2012 Author Report Posted May 7, 2012 Thank you thereuare! I was looking at HOTWIRE, but will try the PRICELINE Hoboken option first.
