charles_316 Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Everything seems to be super expensive for NYC hotels from Thursday, May 17 to Monday, May 21. We have a group of 5 people driving down to NYC and are thinking about booking one hotel room with TWO double beds and simply squeezing the 5th person. From what I have read, it would not be smart to use Priceline since it only guarantees double occupancy in NYC. Unfortunately, the Hotwire prices are super expensive over $400 per night for quad occupancy. We are looking to spend max $300 per night and prefer to stay in any area in central to lower Manhattan - preferably Midtown, Times Square, Madison Square Garden, Empire State, Central Park South, or anything around the area.Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also, do you guys know any cheap inns or apartment rentals that may help?

charles_316 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 Thanks. Yes, I will use those links whenever bidding. Except I don't think I can use priceline unfortunately since we have 5 people this time so it's too risky in case we get double occupancy.
thereuare Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 So if you search HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children does anything appear within your budget... i tried such a search and the least expensive hotel offered in Manhattan for your dates is $375+.Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option, as i see how you can get close to your $300 limit if you're willing to split the bid and change hotels after your first nite.Or if you're willing to stay outside of the city what i believe to be the W Hoboken is available for $210/nite and it's an easy commute to midtown via the PATH train (3 blocks away from the hotel)... and Hoboken has a pretty good nitelife itself if you wan to stay local one nite (but it's not the city).Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. charles_316 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 We don't mind splitting, if it is cheaper. Is it cheaper to search for 2 children/2 adults? And is that ok since they will see 4 adults instead of 2 adults/2 children?
thereuare Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Is it cheaper to search for 2 children/2 adults? And is that ok since they will see 4 adults instead of 2 adults/2 children? It could be cheaper to search for 2adults/2children, but it's also possible that the hotel could have a problem with it if you make it known. And while in some circumstances a hotel may turn the other eye if they learn of the situation, you're also booking for quad occupancy when you'll actually be FIVE people, which could raise the ante for them taking issue with it. So ultimately it depends upon how much 'risk' you're willing to accept. If you do choose to book for 2adults/2children i would certainly only have two people go to the desk at check-in (and only up to four people if you book for 4 adults)Let us know the search parameters you'd like to try as it may (likely) effect the hotels offered. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. charles_316 Posted December 13, 2013 Author Report Posted December 13, 2013 Sorry for the delay in updating my final decision. Hotwire and Priceline options ended up being too expensive. Fortunately, I ended up finding the best deal directly through Holiday Inn website, which is rare for me. I rarely find the best deal through actual hotel websites - normally through a 3rd party like hotels.com, Priceline, Hotwire, etc. Thanks for the advice anyways.
