Anil007 Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 Looking to place bid on 4* in Boston Copley Square/Back bay for stay from May 17th thru May 21st. The price range is currently in the $350-$500 range. Suggestions/help appreciated. Checked out the re-bid strategy, but lost since there are 4* availability in Downtown/theater district and many other places nearby.
thereuare Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Looking to place bid on 4* in Boston Copley Square/Back bay for stay from May 17th thru May 21st.Is this the only zone that is acceptable for this trip? The price range is currently in the $350-$500 range. Is this per nite or the complete stay? These are thru 'traditional' booking channels where the name is shown before purchase?Suggestions/help appreciated. What is your expected budget per nite before fees and taxes?Checked out the re-bid strategy, but lost since there are 4* availability in Downtown/theater district and many other places nearby. If you've read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and are confused, try this and post your findings:1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'Boston, MA' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Anil007 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 Is this the only zone that is acceptable for this trip?No am willing to go with other zones. Is this per nite or the complete stay? These are thru 'traditional' booking channels where the name is shown before purchase? This is per night rate that I am currently getting thru Kayak and other search enginesWhat is your expected budget per nite before fees and taxes?I could go up to $250 per nightThe following zones are being offered on Priceline1. Beacon Hill - 4* Deluxe2. Boston Common - Theater District - 4* Deluxe3. Boston Harbor Front - Aquarium - 4* Deluxe4. Boston Waterfront - Convention Center – 4* Deluxe5. Brighton - Brookline - 3* Upscale6. Cambridge East - Charlestown - 4* Deluxe7. Cambridge West - Harvard - 4* Deluxe8. Copley Square - Back Bay – 4* Deluxe9. Fenway Park – 1* Economy10. Medford - Somerville – 3* Upscale11. North Cambridge - Arlington – 3* Upscale12. Quincy Market - Financial Distric - 4* Deluxe13. Revere - Logan Airport – 4* Deluxe14. South Boston – 3* UpscaleFrom the above, my preferred zones are 8. Copley Square, 2. Boston Common, 1. Beacon Hill in that orderHelp appreciated.
thereuare Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Let's start with the re-bidding to make sure that aspect is understood, since any strategy we suggest will involved re-bidding...The following zones are being offered on Priceline1. Beacon Hill - 4* Deluxe2. Boston Common - Theater District - 4* Deluxe3. Boston Harbor Front - Aquarium - 4* Deluxe4. Boston Waterfront - Convention Center – 4* Deluxe5. Brighton - Brookline - 3* Upscale6. Cambridge East - Charlestown - 4* Deluxe7. Cambridge West - Harvard - 4* Deluxe8. Copley Square - Back Bay – 4* Deluxe9. Fenway Park – 1* Economy10. Medford - Somerville – 3* Upscale11. North Cambridge - Arlington – 3* Upscale12. Quincy Market - Financial Distric - 4* Deluxe13. Revere - Logan Airport – 4* Deluxe14. South Boston – 3* UpscaleGiven the above, if you bid:4* Boston Common <rejected> then try...4* Boston Common and Fenway Park (and keep your star rating at the 4* level)... do you see that if you were successful on the second bid that the hotel you win would have to be in the Boston Common zone? (since the highest star rating offered in Fenway is 1*) Does this make it clearer? Using the info above do you see how you have FIVE such re-bid zones when bidding the 4* level in Boston? Please confirm and/or ask questions and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Anil007 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 So, if I have 5 chances with Boston Common and 5 others zones where no 4* exists, could I add Copley Square and Beacon Hill while re-bidding making them 6 and 7 re-bidding options?
thereuare Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 You can actually use different combinations to get many more than 6-8 bids, but most importantly you're able to identify your re-bid zones.Assuming your goal is the least expensive 4* hotel in any of the three acceptable zones, you could bid as follows, using your FIVE re-bid zones (always double check your re-bid zones using the method above to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked):Select 4* Copley Square...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Boston Common...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Beacon Hill...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Copley Square and Boston Common, Beacon Hill...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Copley Square and Beacon Hill...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Copley Square, Boston Common, Beacon Hill...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $240, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $250Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. dreamernic Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 Thank you for posting the re-bidding strategy so clearly. This made it very easy for me to understand. I'll be bidding on Boston hotels in a few days after I confirm my flight. I've been searching hotel sights and I'm shocked at the rates! We've decided to shorten our stay in Boston and added days in NYC and Washington!I'll be sure to use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the sight and I'll post the results! Thanks again!
