esther8287 Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 I noticed the other threads about the Harborside hotel for $75, but couldn't find the bidding history, and am really hoping for that one, or another 4-star in Downtown Van, Granville. Our dates did overlap but aren't the same. Here is my bidding history:Bid 1 - Downtown Van, Granville - $70 rejectedBid 2 - Downtown Van, Granville, Downtown South - $75 rejectedBid 3 - Downtown Van, Granville, Downtown South, North Van - $75 rejectedI would appreciate any help. Thank you so much in advance.
northy Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 I was looking at a hotel on the 11th in Vancouver, only for one night. I think something must be going on because I bid every single possible combination of zones for the night of the 11th for a 4 star except for the airport (knowing there is only one 4* at the airport, the Westin), starting at $78 all the way up to $100. Still was rejected at $100. I let it rest a day, and Priceline offered me $7 bonus cash. I saw on Hotwire that there was a 4* Vancouver Airport going for $85. Since I had my $7 bonus, I lowered my bid to $78 (so my total would equal $85, same as Hotwire price) and was accepted. It wasn't my first choice, I'd rather be downtown, but it's only a short train ride away in a fairly new Westin.
thereuare Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 Rates are date specific so you won't always be able to replicate another user's win when their dates are different than your own (even if the dates overlap). If you look at the recent wins for when this property has been received at the ~$75 mark, all of these wins included a weekend day (which in this area is usually lower than midweek nites) and that may have something to do with their acceptance vs. your rejection, as well as rates simply changing over time ('opaque' rates may have been lowered for a period and have since been adjusted now that the hotel has filled a number of rooms at the deeply discounted rate)What is your maximum bid for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. esther8287 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 Huh. That's funny that a weekend is lower than midweek! But I can go up to $100/night.
esther8287 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 Helping IDing 2 Vancouver hotels 6/11- 6/14 2.5* Downtown West - $83.47Amenities: Breakfast, Internet, boutique hotel, smoke-free, laundry, golf/tennis nearby --3* Downtown Vancouver Entertainment district - $109.48Amenities: Restaurant, High-speed InternetThanks in advance!
thereuare Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Huh. That's funny that a weekend is lower than midweek! It's actually common in many cities as midweek draws in business travelers (and some tourists)... where as weekends all the business travelers have gone home, which means less demand for hotel rooms, which translates to lower hotel prices on the weekends. In fact if you check rates for your dates at the Renaissance you'll see that rates are slightly higher for your dates than for the weekend before and the weekend after.Above you bid all of the following zones:Downtown VancouverGranville EntertainmentCity Hall - Downtown SouthNorth VancouverHowever, some of these zones don't contain any 4* hotels so you couldn't possibly win a hotel in them. Exactly which zones are you willing to stay in? Are you familiar with re-bidding? (if not, see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and see if can determine the SIX re-bid zones you have when bidding 4* in this area... or if you're confused after reading the previous thread just post back and we'll break it down further for you)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. In regards to the HOTWIRE properties:Please change the currency drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to US Dollars (and if applicable the country to United States). Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.Given that you're looking to bid up to $100 for a 4* hotel, are you really interested in 2.5* and 3* properties at the same price... or do you intend to try bidding for a 4* hotel on PRICELINE first (and then even likely trying the 3.5* level before considering either of these HOTWIRE properties?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. esther8287 Posted May 5, 2012 Author Report Posted May 5, 2012 Yep, I was trying to find more possibilities in case the Priceline doesn't work out. I'll focus on Priceline for now. I'll read over the Priceline Re-bidding Explained, go from there and see what happens, and post back. Thanks!!
thereuare Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Yep, I was trying to find more possibilities in case the Priceline doesn't work out.Let's cross that bridge once we get there as the hotels currently offered now at HOTWIRE may not be the ones offered once you're ready to pursue that avenue. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. esther8287 Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 Did all the rebids up to my limit and I kept getting rejected. I'm going to try for the 3 1/2. Hope I have better luck.No luck. I even added an extra day, Sunday though I probably need a Friday or Saturday I'm assuming. So discouraged!

esther8287 Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 I did Granville and Downtown 4 stars, 3 1/2 stars, then 3 stars and added all the zones available without 4, 3 1/2 and 3 to rebid which, off the top of my head, were Langley, White Rock and one other thing. I bid up to $99.But I've decided to go in another direction with regards to where I'll be staying for my trip. Thanks so much for all your help!
