arh Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 tried all combination for 4* and 3.5* less than $75 in Chicago north shore, no luck. Won the first try on 3* Wyndham Glenview Suites with $60. Any suggestion for sight seeing around hotel ?I will drive to Chicago and want to see downtown. I leave my car in hotel free parking and go to downtown with public transportation. However, this hotel seems to me is far from train station. Any idea to catch train station ?We are are planning to spend one full day in downtown, any suggestion for sightseeing ?
AaronJB Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this all-suite property. The nearest Metra station is 3.2MI away in Glenview on 1116 Depot St. You can find Metra train information at Metrarail.com.There's not a whole lot directly right around this property, but in terms of breakfast, I'll recommend Walker Brothers, which is at 1615 North Waukegan. Slightly closer is Egg Harbor Cafe (2350 Lehigh Ave # 1)I often recommend Hackney's - the original location on Harms (http://www.hackneys.net/locations/glenview-harms/), which is an institution in the area, having been there since 1939. It's in the middle of a residential area that developed around it over the years. That's not for breakfast, but for burgers and things like their fried onion loaf. There's also a Superdawg drive-in at 333 South Milwaukee Avenue. It's somewhat expensive, but Wildfire (1300 Patriot Boulevard) is also a great steak-and-potatoes restaurant nearby. Hackneys also has another location on Lake just East of the corner of Lake and Waukegan, but I like the original location more and it's not that much further away.If you have any questions about the area, please let us know. There's not a lot right directly around the hotel, but there's tons of options (restaurant/shopping) within a short-to-moderate drive. Please let us know a bit more about likes/dislikes and we would be happy to offer sight/restaurant suggestions.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
arh Posted May 5, 2012 Author Report Posted May 5, 2012 Thanks for your recommendation. I will certainly test Walker Brothers for breakfast. However, I don't want to spend to much. I was planning to see Chicago in one day. Which places you guys suggest us ? We are more interest on sight seeing in Chicago. By the way, I did not understand how I can get to Metra station ? I have a free parking in hotel and I was planning to park my car in the Hotel. However, it seems I need to drive to Metra station because it is not in the walking distance.
AaronJB Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 In terms of the Metra station, head South from the hotel on Milwaukee to Glenview Ave. Go East on Glenview Ave to Glenview and Lehigh Ave. Go North a very brief distance on Lehigh and you'll see the station. This hotel also has a shuttle that can take you to the station, according to the hotel website. In terms of downtown sights, I'd highly recommend the Art Institute, the Field Museum (and or/Shedd Aquarium, they're right next to each other.) You could also browse the Michigan Ave. shopping area and go up to the Hancock Observatory to check out the view (or, an alternative in the Hancock is the Signature Room on the 95th floor, where you can have a drink and check out the view - http://www.signatureroom.com/Home/ .) The Lincoln Park Zoo, which is free and to the North of downtown in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, is also highly recommended, although you probably won't have time to do that as well as the above in one day.You can see the menu at Walker Brothers here: http://www.walkerbros.net/WBMenu.html
