So were are driving down from Milwaukee 5/23 after catching some Giants games, and will catch one White Sox game the evening of 05/23. Looking for help on where to stay, we have been to chicago before so sightseeing is not on the schedule. Other then the game on Wed night were going to tour Wrigley Field Thursday morning at 10am then were flying out of ORD on 05/24 in the afternoon. We will have a rental car!

Looking for any suggestion as what areas to stay since were coming from Milwaukee we had thought about just finding an airport hotel at ORD, so we can check in then head down to the White Soxs game, but then driving back after the game at night and also having to wake early to get to wrigley at 10am, maybe somewhere in between would be better. Any suggestions, looking for a place where either parking is free or where we may have to park but coul duse public transpostaiton to get to both fields?

Also any tips on parking at US cellular field for the game on Wed night and parking around Wrigley Thurs morn, (non game day), would help a bunch.

I'd strongly suggest not trying to drive to games - parking is costly at both and traffic is a definite hassle. I'd definitely say take public transit in instead. I'd also recommend the North burbs (Skokie, Evanston, Glenview, Northbrook, although hotels in Evanston do charge for parking - hotels in other North burbs do not.) ORD would be fine for a night, but a number of hotels there do charge for parking. Metra trains run to/from the burbs, while CTA trains run to/from ORD.

What would be your desired budget per night?

I still haven't pulled the trigger on where to stay yet. The goal is not to drive to the games at all. Does anyone know of a CTA/Metra train stop that has free parking that is only a few stops away from US cellular field?

Also on non game days is parking near Wrigley field any easier if were going to be there for a tour and only need to park for an hour and a half or so?

Parking around Wrigley is never a great situation, but it may be somewhat better if it's not a game day. There aren't many CTA stations that offer park and ride - none downtown (http://www.transitchicago.com/parking/ is a complete list of the stations with parking.) Many of the Metra stations near/around downtown do not offer parking (http://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/service_updates/baseball_in_chicago.html).

Looking for this date this evening, there is a 3.5* on HOTWIRE downtown that's likely the Doubletree Mag Mile for $82 and you could likely do better for that or a comparable for less on PRICELINE. Parking at a city lot would be $25. Or you're looking at the 'burbs for probably $40-50 for a comparable hotel and free parking, but a trip downtown.
