Tuca Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Hi!My friend and I are planning to visit Manhattan, but I have never used priceline or hotwire.Could you give us some help?Dates: 06/02 - 06/102 girls - 1 room3.5 or 4 stars (no rats, no bug beds, no shared bath
thereuare Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Unfortunately at the moment i don't think you'll be able to get a 3.5* or better, centrally located hotel, for $170 or less for this complete stay. The situation is twofold, 1) this is still peak season for NYC so prices are high and 2) it can be difficult to win an extended stay such as this during peak season (especially given your budget is near the lower end of the range for even shorter stays).WE can certainly give it a try, but the recommended zones will differ based upon the star rating you decide to try first... while i'm doubtful either would be successful, did you first want to try a 4* up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5*... OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Tuca Posted May 3, 2012 Author Report Posted May 3, 2012 Hello! Thanks for your help.I talked to my friend and: - maximum bid: $220- 3* hotel is ok (we worry about safety and rats/bug bed
thereuare Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 I would try the 3.5* just to exhaust that as a possibility... and maybe you get lucky with your increased budget (did you want to try for a 3.5* first up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3* hotel... or is the goal now the least expensive 3* or better hotel)At the 3.5* level and below the following zones are bid most frequently: MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB, Chelsea, MSG, but some caveats which you'll need to decide to include/exclude based upon your own particular needs...MTE - some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subwayCPS - has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.) which may not be that comfortable for an extended stayMSG - has the Affinia Manhattan which generally gets good reviews, but there have been a few incidents of 'priceline bias' where guests who booked thru a 3rd party (like PRICELINE / HOTWIRE) have been given the smallest and least desirable rooms. Complaining has gotten varying results.. some were moved at their request, others needed to get the booking source involved (with varying degrees of success), and some needed to pay an additional feeChelsea - the zone goes a bit west which may put you 10+ minutes from the subway, but the area is 'cool' after a recent makeover/revitalization so i wouldn't worry about this zone too much from the feel i get from your posts above, but i mention just because of the subway distance, but i DO think you'd ultimately be happy here regardlessBased upon the above let us know your thoughts as to which zones to include/exclude and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. Also please confirm that you do want to first try for a 3.5* property up to your maximum bid before trying for a 3* property... we'll then take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Tuca Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 Hello! Thanks for the quick response.I prefer to try 4*/3,5* first, before try 3*. Areas: MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB, Chelsea and MSG (Could you decide the order for me?)Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Assuming you're fine with the 'caveats' for the three zones above, i would seek the least expensive of any of the acceptable zones. When bidding in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones at the 4* level, SIX re-bid zones at the 3.5* level, and only ONE re-bid zone at the 3* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS and TS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, Chelsea and MSG...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, MTW, CPS and TS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, Chelsea and MSG...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, Chelsea, CPS and TS...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, MTW and MSG...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, MSG and TS...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $188, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, Chelsea and CPS...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $188, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, MSG, TS and ESB...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, MSG, TS and Chelsea...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, MSG, TS and CPS...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTWBid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MSGBid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, TSBid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, TSBid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $203, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, MSGBid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $203, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB, Chelsea and MSG...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $208, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $213, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $218, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220If the above is rejected you can close the browser, use this link to re-access PRICELINE, and start over again but at the 3.5* level.
