chefty1 Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 Looking for some advice for a trip we're taking at the beginning of June. Most of the hotels I've seen on different travel sites are listing hotels from $200-350 a night. I'm going to need two rooms and was wondering what the best strategy would be for paying around 150/night. I'd like to stay in midtown as much as possible, but I'm happy to try elsewhere. Thanks for any direction you all can provide.
thereuare Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! What is the minimum star rating you're seeking? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Have you been to NYC before? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. chefty1 Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 I guess splitting is an option. I'd like to stay together, but if its better to bid seperately, thats fine. I have been to NYC numerous times. I guess the minimum I want to go is 3-star.
thereuare Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Are you willing to stay in Hoboken/Jersey City for part of your stay, with easy access to Manhattan via PATH train?I believe you can get a 4* hotel in this area for $110 or less for 6/1-6/4... then move onward to Manhattan and stay there for the last two nites of your trip (where you will inevitably need to take some of the savings from staying in NJ in order to stay in Manhattan for these latter nites, where currently it looks like a 3* or better will cost ~$175 and a 4* about $225)To stay in Manhattan for the complete stay you're probably looking at over ~$160/nite for a 3* hotel.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Verbat Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Please take a look at the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. You can see that between the 1st and 6th of June there are several wins there. If you dont mind staying in the downtown financial district then i believe you can get a hotel for less or at the $150 budget mark and that will be in a 4* hotel.Staying in midtown at that time of the year will bring you to around $160-$170 for 3* or around $200 or more for 4*.About splitting your bids, you are looking for 5 nights stay and with two rooms it brings it basically to 10 nights. That's a lot of nights for the hotel to sell at a lower price than usual specially when it's in June and it's the tourists season. I would suggest bidding on 2 nights first and see if you can find a hotel and when you have that then bid on the other 3 nights. Splitting it this way may give you a higher chance of winning something.
chefty1 Posted May 1, 2012 Author Report Posted May 1, 2012 Just won a bid on a 3-star Midtown East for $154/night. Got the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue.Looked at the Trip Advisor reviews and everything and am very pleased! Should be a great week.
