Priceline Hotel: NYC Central Park South

My husband and I will be traveling to NYC May 16 - May 21 and would like to stay in the Central Park South area (2) in a 3.5 star or higher hotel. My first bid of $170 was rejected. My maximum bid is $200. Would it be best to increase my bid in $5 increments? Is it possibly to get a hotel in this area for $200 or less?

When you select a star rating on PRICELINE it is the minimum that you are willing to accept, and when you submit a bid PRICELINE will always check higher rated hotels to see if it is possible to upgrade you. Since 4* hotel were also checked when you submitted your 3.5* bid, this is why the 4* level is pre-selected after your first bid was rejected.

Also, to confirm, you're aware of that the Hudson Hotel is an option when bidding CPS at the 3.5* level? While this property is well located, it also has notoriously small rooms (~140 square feet) and you'll need to be willing to accept this outcome if you bid 3.5* level in this zone.

I'm doubtful that $200 will be enough for just the CPS zone for your complete stay, but if you want to give it a try:

At the 3.5* level in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3.5* CPS...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $200

Any questions feel free to ask (especially regarding re-bidding.. if you're new to the concept it's highly recommended you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. If you've read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread and are still confused just post back and we'll break it down further for you.

My last rejected bid was for $212.00 ($205 I bid + a $7.00 Priceline coupon) for CPS, TS, and MW for 3.5 stars. I am guessing I am having a hard time getting an accepted bid due to the time of year and the fact I am staying for 5 nights. I don't want to break up my stay in 2 different hotels so that leaves me with bidding more, expanding my search criteria, or accepting a lower star rating. Any idea how much more I will have to bid to get an accepted offer in CPS, TS, or MW? Any assistance you can provide is GREATLY appreciated.

I wouldn't bid these levels from the get-go, but would rather work your way up gradually (if you're even willing to bid this high), but my guess is that you're going to need to be in the very high $200's to be successful at a 3.5* or higher rated property.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

I started bidding at $170.00 for CPS, TS, and MW. I increased my bids $5.00 to $10.00 each time. After my last unsuccessful bid of $260.00 I decided to book a room at the W New York through Booking.com. I got a room for $333.75 a night plus taxes and fees. Perhaps I'll have better luck with my trip to New Orleans in the fall.

Glad you found something that works for your needs this trip, although i think there is a pretty wide gap between the amount you bid $260 and the retail price you paid ($334)... you likely could have been accepted at 4* hotel between these two amounts.

Thanks for closing this thread with your decision, have a great trip and enjoy your time in NYC!
