I clicked on the PRICELINE link in the forum to search for those dates and it seems I could get a car for as little as $9 (ALAMO).

We are a group of 4 and we will be driving to the West Rim / Skywalk too. I don't know what kind of car should I choose. Do I need a SUV to drive on those unpaved roads? This will be our first time driving to the canyon.

If we don't need a SUV, I am thinking of a Standard / Full size (Currently $13 / $14) ALAMO. So I would start bidding at $8. Please advise.

I don't know much about this route, but a quick web search i found some advise:

-SUV is not necessary, but get a car not that low to the ground

-pack LOTS of water with you as eventually the possible rest stops get farther and fewer between
