jeanniemarie73 Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Hello! Total newbie here. Going to NYC sept 23 for 5 nights. Was trying to book on a military rate but have been told by many a hotel that thy don't offer that rate during those dates. One hotel did say there was some kind of UN assembly during those dates, they DID have a room at a military rate ($299 at the Element times square) but sold out of that rate in 2 days.Anyways came upon your site and getting excited about bidding for a deal. Is the last week in September typically peak travel time? Would like a 4* hotel anywhere centrally located in manhattan. Is it to early to start bidding? Would love to snag a deal for under $200 is that possible do you think?
thereuare Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! The UN in session reeks havoc on the city and on hotel rates... rates skyrocket and hotels are often at or near full occupancy, leaving little reason to offer deep discounts to the opaque suppliers. However, it's early and you still may be able to get something close to your budget.Do you know which zones are acceptable to you and/or what is the minimum star level you're willing to accept? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jeanniemarie73 Posted April 27, 2012 Author Report Posted April 27, 2012 Minimum star rating would be 3* but really prefer a 4*Areas are: MTC/MTE/MTW central park south; empire; times squareOpen to.suggestions and any advice. Budget is hopefully under $200 but as high as $275Thanks!
jeanniemarie73 Posted April 27, 2012 Author Report Posted April 27, 2012 Also would not mind the chelsea area. What are your thoughts on staying in soho financial district?
thereuare Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 I think you'll be able to find something at 3* or higher and $275 and under, but let's start with your ideal preferences first and then we'll take it from there. While i don't think you'll likely be successful, i think your first plan of action would be a 4* hotel in any of the midtown zones you mentioned... then if that is rejected we can discuss the pros/cons of a 4* Downtown vs. a 3.5* in midtown n order to take the next step (or to bid up to $275 for a 4* in midtown)At the 4* level in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, ESB, TS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, ESB, TS and CPS...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. jeanniemarie73 Posted April 27, 2012 Author Report Posted April 27, 2012 Thanks for the advice. I understand about using a rebid zone but am a bit nervous about that as I heard a story about someone getting stuck having to purchace in their rebid zone! So if I bid on an area I want but get rejected then I should add a rebid zone and up the bid a bit? What are some good rebid zones for that area? Is there a link that will give me that info? Thanks in advance!
jeanniemarie73 Posted April 27, 2012 Author Report Posted April 27, 2012 Ok did some research. Determined that for that for my area some good rebid zones would be:LESMSGUESAm I correct?
thereuare Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Those are 3 out of the 7 (and with time on your side i recommend having a full understanding of the concept so you know how to check your re-bid zones before bidding, since they should be checked before every bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked)See this thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask any questions you have.
