Hotwire Attemption to Cancel my Reservations

I reserved several rooms through Hotwire several weeks back and received a call yesterday that they wanted to cancel my reservations as a result of the increased level of demand for rooms for the weekend I have booked. I have reviewed the Hotwire website in detail and can't find anything where it states taht Hotwire can unilaterally cancel my reservations (that were made over 5 weeks ago). Can anyone provide any insight on this topic? Thanks.
