rileyboy Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 I need help identifying a 3.5* for 6/12-6/14. Amenities are: Free parking, free internet, fitness center, pool, laundry, restaurant, High speed internet access and business center. Recommended 85%. It is $63 per night. I am traveling with my husband and 2 older children and looking to get either 2 rooms or 1 suite. Another hotel I was looking at is: same dates but airport north area. It is 3.5*, $117, recommended 90% and amenities are: Suite, airport shuttle, smoke free rooms, fitness center, high speed internet, restaurant and businees center. Thanks for the help.

AaronJB Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Would the Deerfield area (slightly North of Glenview/Northbrook - a separate area on PRICELINE) be okay?I'm guessing the above 3.5* in Northbrook is probably the Crowne Plaza Northbrook.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rileyboy Posted April 19, 2012 Author Report Posted April 19, 2012 That area is fine as well though I have never used Priceline. We will be doing different things while in Chicago and are not locked into any specific area. I was thinking it might be the Crowne Plaza as well. What do you think of the other (airport area) hotel that I mentioned?
AaronJB Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 The 3.5* ORD North has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but I'm guessing it may be the Sheraton Suites w/o the previously reported pool icon.Personally, I usually recommend the North Burbs - nice array of shopping and restaurants, as well as some sights (Long Grove, Chicago Botanic Garden) and near beaches (although some suburbs charge.) A number of airport properties also charge for parking, while the suburban hotels do not.In terms of PRICELINE, I recommend the 3.5* level in the Deerfield zone - the "known" possibilities are the Marriott Suites (which I've stayed at a few times and have liked quite a bit, but it's gotten a couple of mixed recent reviews), the Hyatt (which are called "junior suites", but are more just "expanded/divided rooms") and the Embassy Suites. My guess is that you may be successful between around $45-55 in this zone at the 3.5* level. Please let us know if you have any questions.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rileyboy Posted April 20, 2012 Author Report Posted April 20, 2012 You are 100% right about the Sheraton Suites. The reviews talked about major renovation so I called the Sheraton and asked if the renovations were complete yet and they said almost. I also asked about parking and they said there is a $12 parking fee. I am going to try my hand at PRICELINE and I'll update when I've booked. Thanks for the advice.

rileyboy Posted June 4, 2012 Author Report Posted June 4, 2012 Just to close this out:I tried to book through Priceline and couldn't get anything for $60 or less in the 3.5* range. I ended up booking through hotwire with a differnt date. 06/19, 3*, internet access the only amenity listed, Gurnee instead of Northbrook, 85% recommended. There are 2 that fit that profile. One is over 300 reviews, the one I booked had over 100 reviews. It was the Best Western. I called Hotwire and had them cancel the reservation after calling the hotel and finding out that it was formerly a Comfort Inn and I have never heard of a Comfort Inn being a 3*. I booked one of our Chicago nights at the Springhill Suites (directly through the hotel) but I am still working on 2 rooms on 06/19 somewhere north of Chicago. I will probably book the 3* Vernon Hills/Lincolnshire for $59, 90% recommended with: suite, indoor pool, breakfast, fitness center, free internet, free parking. I believe that is the LaQuinta Suites and I have stayed there before (through Hotwire). If anyone has a different idea of what it is, please let me know.
