Hotwire Hotel: Help with this 4* in Midtown East NY

I am starting to plan an anniversary trip for myself and my husband and want to go to NY and stay in downtown Manhatten. Haven't been there in about 3 years, would like to actually stay downtown this time, last time we stayed out the Shearton Meadowlands, which was OK, but had to drive to the city each day. Although, at the time, the price seemed right compared to Manhatten hotels (think I paid $99/night) for 2 nights in December.

Would like to keep the price under $200/night for the dates of 11/25-11/27 (2 nights). Went on Hotwire and saw they had a 4*, Midtown East with the following amentities:

Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Tennis, Business for $186/night. That seems quite reasonable for a hotel in downtown NY. After some research, my best guess is that this is the Millenium UN.

Have never stayed at one of the Millenuim hotels prior. Can anyone tell me if this is a nice hotel and how is the location?

Also, would I have better success obtaining a 4* on PL for these dates? If so, strategy? Any/all help appreciated. I know I have time!

Thanks.

First to clarify... are you looking for midtown or downtown? See NYC ZONE DESCRIPTIONS for the details/difference among the different areas.

The above does indeed does appear to be the Millenium UN, which is currently rated 3* by Priceline (downgraded from 4* about 3-4 months ago). From what i know it's a very nice hotel, although the location is a bit east.

The rate does look pretty good given that this will be the true beginning of a peak period in NYC. If this hotel is acceptable, i would use this as a 'back-up' and try Priceline now in an attempt to do better... if not successful i woudl take it (assuming it works for your plans).

If you clarify the zones you're willing to bid, and whether you are seeking a 3* or higher on Priceline or only a 4*, we will then suggest a bidding strategy to follow.

I am not picky to either midtown or downtown, just want to stay in Manhatten - once we drive up from Philly, all we want to do is park the car for the weekend and mostly cab it around.

I think what I would like to do is use that Millenium hotel as a backup, as you suggested, and perhaps go from there on Priceline.

I'd prefer a 4*, but am willing to settle for a 3*.

Any help with a strategy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Where do you intend on spending your time?

Downtown is not advisable unless you have a reason to be down in that area. 'cabbing it around' from downtown to midtown will add about $15/trip ($30 RT) each time you need to come/go from your hotel... that money could be better spent on a hotel with a better location :)

So let us know if you really want to bid downtown or not and we'll suggest a strategy to try to beat the above rate.

Definitely want to see a show while we are up there - we are foodies as well, so we want to eat well that weekend as well...I guess midtown would be the better option? I don't know NY that well, have only been there a few times, so any advice is SO appreciated!

Thanks...I know I have time to do this, but would love to have it all planned out if at all feasible...

Yes, midtown would be the better choice (imo).

I think the above rates is going to be tough to beat, but this is what i would try (assuming you are trying to beat the $186/nite rate):

You have two re-bid zones, if you're not familiar with re-bidding please read PRICELINE RE-BIDDING EXPLAINED and feel free to ask any questions you have and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and MTW...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS and MTW...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $175.

If the above fails and you are happy with what is believed to be the Millenium UN i would book the Hotiwre offer. Assuming you are a new customer you can use the discount code 'giftcard06' to get an additional $10/off per nite (up to $50).

Any questions feeel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I am so sorry, I completely forgot about this post. We have friends who are coming in from Ireland for that weekend and while we are going to go stay in New York with them, they booked from overseas due to the exchange rate. They did not use Priceline because they wanted to stay at the Roosevelt Hotel. Sorry for forgetting to follow-up.
