howeezy Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 Please assist. I'm having a hard time getting a successful bid. A priceline email showed that someone had booked near Dupont Circle for $105 and I'm curious to know what the likelihood of this would be. Thank you.
AaronJB Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The PRICELINE email alerts are for a win for the star rating/zone, but are not necessarily for your dates. What bids have you tried so far in terms of zone/price?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
howeezy Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 I tried this exactly:Select 3* Downtown...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Capitol Hill...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Dupont Circle...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Downtown and Capitol Hill...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Dupont Circle and Capitol Hill...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Downtown, Capitol Hill, Dupont Circle...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110
thereuare Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 Above you mention being willing to accept the Gerogetown zone but you don't appear to have included this in your bidding... is this zone still acceptable or did you change your mind? (as HOTWIRE has what i believe to be the Latham Hotel for $105/nite for your dates... would this be of any interest?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. howeezy Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 I will accept Georgetown but didn't use it in the previous try as I was using someone else's to get a feel for it. Now that I am looking at this Latham Hotel, I'm thinking it might be beneficial to stay outside of the city as I will have a car. I would love to stay inside the city, but parking will be a fortune. Maybe I should focus on further hotels with easy metro access...
thereuare Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Maybe I should focus on further hotels with easy metro access...The 'problem' is that you can't choose a specific location within the zone and need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select. Therefore, unless the zone is geographically small enough that everywhere within it provides easy access to the metro, there is no way to target a hotel specifically near the metro (unless you decide to go with HOTWIRE where you can take a guess as to the property being offered... but you have to guess correctly ;) )I would love to stay inside the city, but parking will be a fortune. You can usually find parking separate from your hotel at more affordable rates... as this is a city it still won't necessarily be cheap, but at least more affordable then directly from the hotel. You could also see which metro stations outside the city offer overnite parking for 5 nites, park your car and not return until the end of your trip.Let us know once you decide how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. howeezy Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 I suppose my priorities have switched to paying less or nothing for parking and easy metro access as opposed to staying within the city. Even if I were to pay $120 for a hotel in the city, I will spend another $40/night parking there. I will start looking around your HOTWIRE link for ideas. Thanks!
howeezy Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 Using the same strategy I previously used, but adding Georgetown, I booked the Latham Hotel for $100/night. I didn't save much over the Hotwire price and parking is going to be another challenge, but I'd say $100 is not bad considering most hotels are charging near $300/night retail. Thank you for your help.
AaronJB Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)Definitely a very nice deal for a busy period in the area.
