Cheerbear Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 Hello, I've been reading the forums and this is my first time going to Hawaii and I've only bid on priceline once before. If anyone would like to give me some suggestions on how to bid, I would be very grateful.I'm looking for a 5* or Resort type accommodation for my family of 4 (2 young kids, 2 adults) first in Wailea from 7/2-7/7, then I'm hoping to stay in Hana one night through VRBO, and need something close-ish to airport on 7/8, but not too close to the airport, maybe Kihei? or Wailea again...Then 7/9-7/15, looking for Resort class in Waikiki. Does anyone know what my starting bids should be? I have been debating between booking through priceline and VRBO and friends recommended not to book in Waikiki through VRBO as they had better options with priceline for the same cost. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheerbear Posted April 14, 2012 Author Report Posted April 14, 2012 I forgot to add that in Waikiki, both Waikiki Beach and Waikiki Marina resorts would be good for us, I'm not sure if the prices could be lower by waikiki Marina?
thereuare Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. To begin, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Cheerbear Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 I think we could take the risk of getting one bed - I suppose it would be king sized? Please let me know how I should proceed with bidding on priceline.Much appreciated!
thereuare Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 I think we could take the risk of getting one bed - I suppose it would be king sized? No, not necessarily... there are smaller beds than kings which are still considered to accommodate 'double occupancy'.Please confirm if you still want to pursue PRICELINE and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Cheerbear Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 We will take the risk and priceline for our Maui (Wailea) portion of the trip. We would like to have the resport level but that might be impossible. We are also meeting another family there so we may be have to priceline 2 rooms to ensure we're staying at the same place. Then I will need to priceline one room for July 8th - it could be anywhere on Maui Island, not necessarily Wailea. For Oahu portion I am going to book a private condo through VRBO. Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 To recap (just the Wailea portion of your trip that you're bidding now):Maui (Wailea) for 7/2-7/7 for 2 rooms, is this correct? Are you ready to bid now? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Did you want to try for a Resort class property first, then if rejected try for a 4*?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these links before replying.Thanks.
