Asking for an upgrade with a PL room

Has anyone had any luck getting an upgraded room at check-in with a room bought on PL? I am taking my mom to San Francisco for her 60th birthday and would love a nice room.

Is it just not possible? I've used PL many times and have never been successful in getting a room upgrade, although I always ask.

Yes, upgrades can and do happen.

I've had some luck with upgrades with PL hotels. The most recent was at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago.

So it is possible...it also helps if you've waited for more than 30 min for checkin...
