tonyan03 Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Hi, I am looking at a *4 property in "Hoboken- Jersey City - North Bergen" listed on Hotwire for $132/night. I will be staying from May 3-6th.Amenities are:Smoke Free RoomsFitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-Speed Internet AccessIs this the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor?
AaronJB Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 This would be a possible match for the Westin or Sheraton Suites, both of which have been seen with this amenity set previously.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 My guess is that this may more likely be the Sheraton rather than the Westin. The Sheraton did just get a little better location-wise, not because they moved the hotel :P, but because a new pedestrian walkway opened behind the hotel which makes it easier to walk to Hoboken. However, this is still the least preferred 4* hotel in the zone as it requires traveling to NYC by bus rather than PATH train, but it is now more do-able than it was previously. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. tonyan03 Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 Hi, i need help identifying the following hotel on Hotwire (as always, i used the HOTWIRE/PRICELINE links provided in these forums)Booking from 5/3 - 5/6 for 2 rooms, 4 adults.Amenities: free parking, free internet, smoke free rooms, fitness center, pool(s)Currently going for $87.47. It doesn't seem to fit any of the hotels currently on the Better Bidding database. Any ideas?
thereuare Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Please change the currency drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to US Dollars (and if applicable the country to United States). Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase. What is the room rate per nite in US Dollars? tonyan03 Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 Hi Thereuare, the price in USD is $86/night. Thanks for your help.
AaronJB Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 If you scroll over "see all" next to the amenities, are there additional amenities beyond the ones noted above?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
tonyan03 Posted April 15, 2012 Author Report Posted April 15, 2012 Sorry AaronJB, there are additional amenities that I forgot to include: The complete list includes:Free ParkingFree InternetSmoke Free RoomsFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-Speed Internet AccessGolf NearbyNow with all those amenities, I see from your hotel lists, that it's most likely the Sheraton Meadowlands?
thereuare Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Yes, the Sheraton with the addition of a new 'Free Internet' amenity would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. tonyan03 Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 Hi Thereuare, I could use your help for my situation. I'm currently looking for 2 rooms for May 3-May 6/12. My family is driving down from Toronto and would like to stay in a hotel that has easy access to Manhattan (PATH) and is in a safe neighborhood. From my research, the 4* properties in Jersey City would fit these criteria perfectly, but I can't seem to win one that's within historical data and my budget, which is max $145/night/room. I've entered bids from $90 all the way up to $145, increasing by $5 each time with no luck. I've also put in bids for 3* in Jersey City hoping to get the Doubletree and have gone up to $111 with no luck. I haven't seen any wins for Doubletree in quite some time, leading me to believe that perhaps it's not part of Priceline's inventory anymore? If i can't secure a hotel in Jersey City, would my next best area be Secaucus? How are the 3* properties in that area? Is the area relatively safe? Thanks for any help you could offer.
thereuare Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 The Sheraton Lincoln Harbor would be a better location, imo, then Secaucus... but the question is if it's that much better to justify the extra expense... will likely cost about $50+ more per nite per room and the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor charges for parking. The plus of the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor is that the near walkway gives you access to Hoboken, there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel to get to Manhattan (which is maybe 1/4 of a mile from the mouth of the Lincoln Tunnel... although traffic this last stretch could be brutal at times), and most of the hotel has nice views of the Manhattan skyline... with Secaucus most of the hotels are nearby a bus stop, but there may be one or two which are less convenient then others (at which point you could always use the nearby Park N Ride since you'll have a car) but it's also substantially cheaper. Also, using MAPS and HOTELS.com i see the Courtyard is $189/nite for your dates and the Doubletree is $181/nite... neither is too far off from your $150 maximum bid... i'd consider bidding higher on PRICELINE at the 3* level. Neither the Courtyard nor the Doubleree are won that often as they tend not to offer deeply discounted inventory to the opaque suppliers, and the 4* hotels in the zone tend to be more aggressive in pricing, i suspect that each does still participate, but their pricing may often be higher than the 4* hotels in the area. (the Courtyard rate appears to be refundable up until the day before arrival (always double check the terms yourself) so you may want to use that as a refundable back-up and continue to hold-out in the hopes that something at the 4* level in the zone comes available in the next week or so)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. tonyan03 Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 After trying and failing to win a 4* hotel in Jersey City for under $145, I decided to go for a 3.5* property in East Rutherford/Meadowlands. I saw that Hotwire was offering the property for approx. $86, so I went on Priceline and bid $71. No luck. Increased to $76 and got it. Overall, I'm happy since we will have a car and can drive to the Secaucus Junction station and take the train to NYC. The extra amount we save on the room and the parking required at the Jersey City properties can go towards more eating and shopping in the city! =)Overview: 3.5* Meadowlands- Rutherford - $71: Noadd 3.5* Newark - $76: WINTotal for 2 rooms, 3 nights = $456 + tax = $539.34 Thanks BetterBidding for all your help. And of course, i used the links for HOTWIRE and PRICELINE from this forum.
thereuare Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you found something within your budget that will work for your plans this trip.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.
