travelsav Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Hi, I'm looking for a room for Wednesday and Thursday nights near the end of this month. Last year at this time I got Club Quarters Downtown on Wall Street for $80/night, but this year looking at both the Calendar of Wins and the Hotwire listings, it seems like things are much more expensive, so I'd appreciate any tips. I'm looking for something reliable, so I don't think I'd go below 3 stars. During the day I'll be spending my time near 45th and Madison, so something Midtown East would be ideal, although anything that's an easy subway ride (as the Club Quarters was) would be fine, too. Is a 3.5 star within an easy commute of Midtown East and not much over $100 reasonable, or do I have to adjust my expectations? Any tips? And just as a point of interest, why when give suggestions do you have people close their browsers before rebidding? Thanks.
thereuare Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Depending upon the bidding range (starting bid to maximum bid) closing the browser can be part of a bidding strategy as it helps you get more re-bidding opportunities. What are the actual dates of your stay, 4/25-4/27?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 If you're willing to include Downtown in your bidding i think you're likely looking at about $145-$170 for a 3.5*... for a 3* perhaps $130-$150.We'd of course start lower, but let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Are all of the following zones acceptable:CPS, DT, ESB, MSG, MTE, TSDO NOTE, at 3.5* and under:CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.) even by NYC standards. May not make much of a different to you for a one nite stay, but definitely something you should be aware ofMTE - some hotels are up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable? (again, may/may not be a factor to you for a one nite stay)Please confirm the zone(s) you're willing to accept, and that you wanted to try for a 3.5* first up to your limit ($170??) before trying for a 3*... or were you looking at some other maximum bid and wanted to try for a 3* first? Please confirm and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. travelsav Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 Yes, those zones are good. I don't mind small, or a walk. Let's start with 3.5 and see what happens.

travelsav Posted April 19, 2012 Author Report Posted April 19, 2012 I worked my way up to $170, but was unsuccessful. What strategy would you use for a 3-star hotel, topping out at, say, $150? Thanks.
thereuare Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 When bidding 3* in NYC you only have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. As i think $150 will still likely come up short, i've used your previous bidding limit of $170 (which still may come up short) but you can stop at whatever level you'd like...Select 3* CPS, DT, ESB...
