I've seen here bids in "City Centre - Museum Quarter" but in Priceline the areas I found are: Central Area Canals, City Centre, Museum Quarter-Rai Centre and 2 other areas that I don't consider.

Which area do you recommend to me to choose as a tourist?

Do you know which 5* hotels I'll be able to find in each area?

Thanks guys!

Priceline recently changed the bidding zones in Amsterdam. The reported bids you are seeing used the old zone names from the time the bids were made.

If you look at the hotel list (the very first post in this Priceline-Other Countries area), you can see the reported 5* hotels. And in that listing, the administrators have taken the time to regroup them under the new zone names.

Regarding which zone(s) you should choose, it really depends upon what you want to visit in Amsterdam. There are tourist attractions in all three of the zones you mention. When I'm visiting a new city I usually map my choices, and then the hotel area is defined by that. Amsterdam is pretty compact, with the three zones you mentioned in a rough rectangle of only about 4 miles by 1 1/2 miles. And there are all sorts of good transportation options. The things you want to see might be limited to one of the zones. But more likely they are spread across all three, and any of those zones would serve.

Thanks once more,Romelle. It seems that something is going on in Amsterdam between 27th April to 1st May (Queens Day?) Hotels are pretty expensive. Yesterday I offered up to US$180.00 for a 5* and nothing.

I also think that the Museum area must be a little out of the way and the person to whom I'm bidding doesn't like to take public transportation (don't ask me why!). So I will concentrate on city centre and central area canal. Today I will try 4*.

After I've tried City Centre an Central Canals area in 5* and 4*, up to US$200.00 I decided to try that area.

It's a good price if one considers that the city is almost fulled booked for this period (Queen's Day?). The best price for this hotel in booking.com (prepaid) was at least US$300.00 more for the period for each room, including the fees I paid.

So we saved US$600.00

I could have started this area with less, I suppose. But it's not a bad deal, considering the circunstances and the time (that I don't have).

Thanks for your help, guys, especially to Romelle.
