j0esmoe13 Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Hello, I'm looking for a beachfront room in Clearwater Beach for June 1 - June 4. Would prefer 4* or 3.5*. The only 4* I've identified is the Hyatt. Any bidding suggestions are appreciated. My maximum bid would be approx. $165/nt. I will be traveling with 2 other people. Many thanks.
thereuare Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. j0esmoe13 Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 Thank you. I am aware of the risk. I am interested in Priceline bidding tips. I've never used Hotwire as Priceline always has a better deal. Thanks again in advance.
thereuare Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 Would prefer 4* or 3.5*.Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. j0esmoe13 Posted April 9, 2012 Author Report Posted April 9, 2012 Price is not a huge factor. We want to stay on the Clearwater Beach side of the inlet, not on Sand Key.
thereuare Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE zones extend beyond Clearwater Beach and into Sand Key, and with PRICELINE you need to be willing to accept a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone. If you're not willing to accept this risk then you can look at HOTWIRE and see if you can be reasonably sure of the hotel based upon the amenities shown before your purchase and therefore be reasonably sure of the location. Still some risk involved as you'll need to have accurately guessed at the hotel (or even if you guess wrong the hotel could still be on the Clearwater Beach side of the zone), but it's a risk that you'll need to accept in exchange for the discounts typically obtained thru the opaque providers.Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. j0esmoe13 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 I understand the risks/rewards with each site. I'm looking for pricing guidance for 4* or 3.5* hotels. Many thanks!
thereuare Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 I'd guess a 4* would be in the $160-$180 area while a 3.5* may be in the $120-$150 range... I'd of course start lower and work your way up.If you'd like help with a specific bidding strategy let us know which star rating you'd like to try for and your maximum bid and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
