baskiddball Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 So I will create a thread to hopefully get some specific help. I have seen a few people get from the 125-130 dollar range in the Downtown Financial District, and now someone who got 129 for Soho. I started my bid at 120, went to 125, and went to 130 and got rejected all three times.I am wondering if anyone can help me with a bid strategy with the zones to try and help me get a 4 star hotel for around that price. I know its a very low price in comparison to what everyone else is paying, but I have now seen around 4 people pay around that price to stay at a 4 star hotel in the neighbouring NYC zones, at the same time I am staying there and am wondering if anyone can give me a strategy to approach. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.
thereuare Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Rates fluctuate over time and go up/down based upon supply/demand. Although there was a win at $130 for the same dates as above, it was purchased over 2 weeks ago and if your $130 bids are currently being turned down then a hotel in the zones you're bidding is no longer willing to accept that rate. You can choose to:wait it out and hope for lower priced inventory to be given to PRICELINE in the next 10 dayslower your star ratingraise your bidSPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BIDchoose other nearby zone(s)I will add that you can likely get a 4* hotel in Jersey City on the waterfront with easy access via PATH train for ~$100/nite or less. It's not as convenient as staying directly on Manhattan and you do lose the 'nyc buzz', but it is an extremely viable alternative, especially if budget is an issue.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to procded and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. baskiddball Posted April 4, 2012 Author Report Posted April 4, 2012 Wow, thank you so much for your quick and personally tailored reply. I honestly appreciate your help very very much so. How often am I allowed to rebid, or am I just allowed to bid once per zone. I would be willing to wait it out another 3 or 4 days and try to get a hotel like the Marriott or that one in Soho and if not possibly go down to a 3 and a half star or 3 star rating. To me, staying in Jersey City is no problem at all but the person who is traveling with me specifically said that he did not want to be away from NYC with long travel times. What would be the best way to approach it, should I start with lower bids like 110/115, or just keep expanding the zones and keep bidding 130/135?Thanks again for all your help.Best,Stephen
thereuare Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 How often am I allowed to rebid, or am I just allowed to bid once per zone. You can only make the same bid once every 24 hours, but since you're bidding multiple zones, there are strategies that we can use to give you as many bids as you need, as well as using re-bid zones (see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained.. although if you're new to the concept it's highly recommended that you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding) Currently you have SEVEN re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in NYC, feel free to confirm them with the board or ask any questions if you're confused.I would be willing to wait it out another 3 or 4 days and try to get a hotel like the Marriott or that one in Soho and if not possibly go down to a 3 and a half star or 3 star rating... What would be the best way to approach it, should I start with lower bids like 110/115, or just keep expanding the zones and keep bidding 130/135?If you let us know which zones you're willing to accept (include zones which are acceptable, even if you believe beyond your budget), as well as your maximum bid ($135??), and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
