domates Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hey there!I am living in Los Angeles and planning to visit New York FOR THE FIRST TIME in June. I found a good flight deal but I cannot find a room within my price range. Since I will be on a tight budget, I don't want to go higher than $120. Is it possible to find a decent place in Manhattan for that price? or am I totally dreaming? I tried priceline but it looked a little complicated for me.Can you explain it to me like you would explain to a 5 year old?? :( Oh if anyone knows any good deals, pleaseee feel free to let me know. Thanks!
domates Posted April 3, 2012 Author Report Posted April 3, 2012 Bidding assistance 3*June 25-Jul 2, TS/MTW/MTE First time traveller, PLEASE HELP!I am travelling to New York for the first time and don't know where to start. What are some good strategies to score a good deal? I am on a tight budget so I don't think I can go higher than $150/night. Manyyy thanks in advance!!
thereuare Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.TS/MTW/MTEAs you've found your budget is not that much for NYC, so it would be recommended to include as many zones that are acceptable for this trip in hopes of getting the best deal.NOTE that you include MTE above, but when bidding this zone at 3.5* or less there are some hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable? Also, in light of my comments above in regards to including as many zones that are accesptable, is there a reason you're not including Chelsea, ESB, and/or MSG in your bidding? At less than 4* these zones typically work out well for the average visitor. Please confirm which zone(s) you want to include/exclude any of these zones discussed above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. domates Posted April 3, 2012 Author Report Posted April 3, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. So so sorry about that! I am a new member. I didn't mean to spam.TS/MTW/MTEAs you've found your budget is not that much for NYC, so it would be recommended to include as many zones that are acceptable for this trip in hopes of getting the best deal.I'm not familiar with NYC. Those are the only areas that I was recommended. If there are more convenient places, I would be happy to add them to my list.NOTE that you include MTE above, but when bidding this zone at 3.5* or less there are some hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable?YES! i dont mind walking at all. it could be longer than 15 mins. not a problem at all. Also, in light of my comments above in regards to including as many zones that are accesptable, is there a reason you're not including Chelsea, ESB, and/or MSG in your bidding? At less than 4* these zones typically work out well for the average visitor.the only reason was that i didnt know those areas :( if they are within my criteria, i will include them in my list as well. Please confirm which zone(s) you want to include/exclude any of these zones discussed above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.like i said, im not familiar with NYC. this will be my first visit. im looking for convenient and safe areas. i dont mind taking the subway but i dont want to waste an hour to get to the city either. i also dont want a shared bathroom. i hope im not being too picky :) MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!
thereuare Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Given your criteria, and taking your budget into consideration, i think any of the following zones would be fine:Chelsea, ESB, HK, MSG, MTE, MTW, TSYou may want to include the following with the caveats noted:CPS - well located but contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards, ~140 sq. ft.) If this would be acceptable then you could include this zone as well, but otherwise i'd avoiditSoho-Tribeca and/or DT-Financial - there are a bit south, but you'll be in Manhattan and it will be convenient to anything you want to do 'Downtown', but to get to midtown (where more of your activities will likely be) will be ~20 minute on the subway, would this be acceptable? Also, note that DT-Financial gets fairly quiet on the weekends.LASTLY... depending upon which zones you want to include in your bidding, you may benefit from SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID. You may want to try bidding for your complete stay first, but if rejected, consider splitting your bid. As well, if you do SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, there is a great deal in Hoboken/Jersey City (NJ) where you can get a 4* hotel for ~$100/nite, and easy access to Manhattan via PATH train, but you lose much of the buzz/vibe/convenience of staying directly in Manhattan, but if budget becomes an issue, it may be something to consider as we move along and you stay a few days in NJ to still have easy access to NYC while saving money, then take some of the savings to spend more on a hotel for the other nites of your trip (and stay directly in Manhattan)Feel free to ask any questions you have, but if none i guess we'll start by letting us know the zones you're willing to bid and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
