passions Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 I saw a couple winning bids on here for that same time, one was for $110 and the other was for $95. I bid up to $100 today with no success. I don't have a maximum budget necessarily, but would like to keep it as low as possible. Any suggestions?

passions Posted April 4, 2012 Author Report Posted April 4, 2012 Question, are Club Quarters and Central Loop Hotel the same hotel? I saw them on Priceline.
AaronJB Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I believe they are two halves of the same building. A few other Club Quarters properties are the same, including the other CQ property in Chicago (which is both CQ Wacker/Michigan and the River Hotel).Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
passions Posted April 4, 2012 Author Report Posted April 4, 2012 Thank you for the info Aaron. I think Club Quarters will be a good alternative in case things fall through with Priceline. $122 seems like a pretty good price for a room in Chicago, and it seems like a decent location too.I've heard that the River North area is a better area though. What is a realistic bid for a 4* in the River North Area for 6/14-6/17?
AaronJB Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Are you seeing the Club Quarters $122 regular rate?I'm guessing you're likely looking at in the neighborhood of $120-140 for a 4* in the NMA-River North area, possibly a touch higher if hotels are not aggressively discounting. The River North-NMA area is great if you plan to be out later at night - there's a lot more options in the way of restaurants and nightlife. Parts of the Loop can be pretty quiet later at night.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
passions Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 Yes, I believe that the $122 is the regular rate for those hotels. What are your thoughts on the Renaissance Blackstone Chicago Hotel? I've noticed that a lot of the most recent winners have this hotel. Is it in a pretty good area... close to local transportation, popular attractions, and restaurants? And is it in a safe area?
AaronJB Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 The Blackstone has been won for some recent dates, but inventory can vary significantly from day-to-day (both in terms of price and which hotels may be offering discounted inventory), and while it may be a possibility for these dates, there's no way to know for sure. The Blackstone is at the far South end of the Loop zone on PRICELINE. This property is a relatively mild walk to the museum campus (a few blocks East to the Lake, then South along the lakefront briefly) and not far Millennium Park/The Art Institute (North). However, this area is going to be quiet at night, and it's a trek to Michigan Ave shopping/restaurants. It's also a fair trek to what shopping is on State St in the Loop (Macy's, for example). It's not the most optimal/central location, but if it can be had for low enough and one doesn't mind walking/taking public transit (there is a subway station nearby and there's plenty of bus routes that go by the hotel) it's workable. In terms of this location, if one were to stay out late at night North of the river, I'd recommend a cab back.In terms of restaurant options/nightlife, the most options are to the North of the river.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
passions Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 Tried bidding up to $150 for the River North area and it failed. Added in the Millenium Park area for $115 and won the Blackstone Renaissance.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Congratulations on your success! AaronJB Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 This property is a bit of a trek to Michigan Ave and not centrally located (as I noted above), BUT - I will say that $115 for the busy Summer season is a really, really terrific value for this property. For $35 (or possibly more) difference between this and the River North area, I'd certainly take this deal. The cheapest rate on the hotel's website for these dates is $259.Let us know if you have any questions about the city.
