eman31 Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 I've been reading the forums for a few days trying to research hotels for this year Lollapalooza and see on Hotwire a 4* Museum campus hotel with a 90% recommended rating and 500+ reviews for 227 a night. Is there any way to tell the difference between the Hilton and Hyatt McCormick Place since they have the same amenity listings (Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access)? I was trying to cross check with tripadvisor and the only difference in their ratings is the number of reviews, 800 for the Hilton and 300 for the Hyatt. If I was sure of the Hilton I'd jump on it, the Hyatt is getting a little further away then I would like. My other option is the Wyndam Blake on Priceline for 240 a night. I've stayed at both the Hilton and the Blake in the past and they are both nice hotels within walking distance of the festival entrance which is my main goal.
AaronJB Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, there's no way to tell between the Hilton and Hyatt, and the Hyatt is definitely too far out of the way South.Orbitz has the Club Quarters Loop for $169; while fairly basic, it wouldn't be a terribly far walk through the Loop to Grant Park. Coupon code SAVINGS5 takes another 5% off.On HOTWIRE, I see the potential Hotel Felix for $232 and potentially the Omni for $252. Both of these are North of the river - please let us know if you are interested in these. If you don't mind switching hotels, 8/5-6 is - when viewed separately on HOTWIRE and elsewhere - way cheaper than when searching for 8/3-6 as a whole; you could you stay one place for 8/3-5 and then switch for 8/5-6. Let us know if this would be of interest.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Orbitz links to start your purchases and searches.
eman31 Posted April 3, 2012 Author Report Posted April 3, 2012 Thanks for the reply! I did see what I assumed to be the Felix when searching the Streeterville area but that's getting a little far as well. I see a boutique in the loop for 266 which I assume is Burnham or Allegro. Both of those are walkable so if you figure in the cab fare from the ones on the north side it would probably be a wash. I actually live in the suburbs and am trying to avoid taking the train in all three days like I did last year. Getting up early and getting back home after 1:00am combined with all the walking at the festival just about did me in by Sunday. The 8/3-5 is a great suggestion. I was originally thinking about staying the extra night but it might actually be easier to come home Sunday night. I'll update when I get it narrowed down.

eman31 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 I'm still on the fence about this 4 star Museum Campus hotel on hotwire. Does the "Other Sites" pricing give any indication or is it a red herring? They are showing 339 on other sites which is what the Hilton is coming up as on every other site when I do the "compare with other sites" search. McCormick Hyatt only shows up on a couple at 249.00. I tried doing a 4 star bid on Priceline last night but struck out at 150.00 to 200.00.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 The crossed out price is not the price of the specific hotel offered, but rather the average price of hotel(s) in the zone of this star rating (and it could be an average of one, thus the reason for the price matching the Hilton, although this may in fact not be the Hilton)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 The issue becomes getting back to the Hyatt at night, which could be done via Metra Electric (although you'd have to make sure you got the train or have to wait for a while) or taking a cab. I'm seeing what appears to be the Silversmith on HOTWIRE for $231 and a 4* boutique (which may be the Palomar, Felix or Sax) for $236.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
eman31 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 Thanks for the further advise! I'm going to stew on it for a few more days. Looks like the Hyatt Regency has a special going through Priceline at 254 and there is still the Wyndham Blake at 242 so I have some solid options in that general price range.
eman31 Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 The Hyatt Regency dropped their advertised price to 229.00 on Priceline so I ended up jumping on that instead of playing the guessing game. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions. I really appreciate the guidance and will be sure to do my searching in the future through here. Eric
AaronJB Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 The Hyatt on Wacker or Hyatt McCormick? If the Hyatt on Wacker, that's a pretty perfect spot for the concert. Please use the site's Support Page links to book regular rate.Enjoy your stay and have fun at the concert.
eman31 Posted April 11, 2012 Author Report Posted April 11, 2012 Ooops Hyatt on Wacker. I didn't realize the McCormick Place was a Hyatt Regency as well. I would have loved to save a few more dollars but very happy with this hotel and location considering what else was available in the price range.
