MacGyver21 Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 Hello,I am new to posting but I have used this site quite a bit over the years. Thanks for all the wonderful tips and knowledge. Background: My wife and 3 girlfriends (4 people) are going to Vegas 5/4-5/7...they would like to stay in a 5 Star hotel (either North or South strip)...and be around $175/night. I have already tried bidding on PL (using the above links :) on a few different occasions with: 5 Star, Strip North and Strip South from $125 - $175 (going up in $5 increments) and have not been accepted. Note: The Trump (currently $185 on Hotwire) is an option (either on PL or HW) for them but I would like to try exhausting other options first. I have a couple questions:1. Is this a reasonable price for a 5 Star? Obviously, I would try to get a better/lower rate for a 4 Star 2. Should I wait till closer to the actual date to start making bids?3. Ideally, they want 2 queens so all these moms can have a bed, but I know nothing is guaranteed...so I told them to do the $20 trick to see IF they can upgrade. I know a King bed and a pullout bed is likely too. Thoughts?Any other advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. ThanksI will certainly use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start my purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding!I am new to posting but I have used this site quite a bit over the years. MacGyver21 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Report Posted March 31, 2012 I will be sharing my winning bids from now on for sure :)Sorry, I am bidding on 1 room.
thereuare Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 If excluding the Trump, based upon current rates a 5* will likely cost you closer to $200+ for this these dates... a 4* hotel closer to the $100 area (South Strip) or $150 (North Strip)At the 5* hotels most are not charging more for rooms with 2 beds vs. rooms with one bed, as well as additional charges fro more than double occupancy, so i would certainly only send two people up to the desk at check-in and request an upgrade (along with the $20 trick if you desire). Whether or not they're successful will be based upon a LOT of factors, most notably hotel occupancy levels and what is available at the time they try to check-in.Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. MacGyver21 Posted April 1, 2012 Author Report Posted April 1, 2012 I just did a series of bids, including Trump this time, up to $166/night (starting at $125) and was unsuccessful.Do you think the rates will come down any the closer we get to 5/4?I guess I have never bid on a 4 Star North or South on the strip...how many re-bids do I have? Thanks
AaronJB Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 I'm seeing what *appears* to be a possible match with the Trump (with a couple of different amenities) showing for $134 on these dates as of this morning; it may be worth starting low again ($100 and working higher by $5's) and seeing if inventory has been made available at lower rates.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

My concern is IF I do accept and decide to do the $134 on HW...that we won't get enough beds/a pull out couch (as in, these moms don't want to be sleeping on the floor for 3 nights with only 1 king bed!)...Should that be a concern?
AaronJB Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 PRICELINE only guarantees one bed/double occupancy, and there is no guarantee that the hotel will be willing or able to offer two beds. The only way to ensure some form of bedding (which is commonly 2 beds or 1 + sofabed or 1 + rollaway, etc) for the entire party would be searching for more than 2 people per room on HOTWIRE. Searching for two on HOTWIRE was more to provide an indicator of possible PRICELINE rates. If the possible Trump is showing at $134 for 2, I'd be surprised if it can't be had on PRICELINE for less. That said, if getting only one bed is a concern, then bidding on PRICELINE is a risk. The hotel may say yes, may say no or may (and there have been a number of instances of this) charge an upgrade fee. It may vary on date and who you talk to.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
MacGyver21 Posted April 1, 2012 Author Report Posted April 1, 2012 Gotcha, I understand. Although I did bid up to $166 yesterday on Trump (North Vicinity) and was not successful. I might try again on PL.How many re-bids to I have with a 4 Star on the strip??I see: North, South, and North VicinityAm I missing 1 or more? Please assist. Thanks
