Just used this forum and Priceline for the first time. Don't know if this is a good deal or not, but it seems decent. Started bidding at $40 and went up by $2.00 increments. $60.86 after taxes and fees.

I had to add zones with each bid, though, and it seems like I risked getting something not downtown. Is there a way to get extra bids without this risk?

Of coruse it's a good deal.. when was the last time you saw a full service Sheraton, or any 3.5* Downtown property for that matter, for $46/nite. ;)

You want to add zones, but not just any zone... you want to add what are specifically referred to as 're-bid zones'. These are zones that you can add without any risk of receiving a hotel in that zone because the zone only contains hotels rated lower than the star level you've designated. You can read more about re-bid zones, and the proper way to determine them, in this Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread. (if you want to check yourself, at the 3.5* level in St. Louis you have SIX such re-bid zones... feel free to confirm them with the board and/or ask any questions you have so that you're better prepared the next time you bid on a hotel.
